Chapter 12 - If they're extinct, why is there one in front of us?

Chapter 12 – If they’re extinct, why is there one in front of us?

“What the hell Jack? What just happened back then?” I hissed at my friend when we were past the gate and the gigantic dog.

He just smiled, “Easy, Cerberus remembers me. Luckily for us, and he let us pass!”

I looked weirdly at him but before I could say something he held his hand up, “I know what you are going to say and don’t. That’s a story for another time if you really want to know, for now we need to focus on finding our friends.” I told me and I nodded. I know he’s right but I’m just very curious…

I decided to listen to him and I let it pass for now. But I will ask him later about it.

I took my time to look at the countless souls around us. They were in different shapes but they had one thing in common. They looked miserable.

“Those are the doomed souls. Doomed to work here forever,” Jack said as if he could read my mind.

“How do you become a doomed soul then?” I asked in curiosity.

“It’s difficult to explain, but I will try. You know we are the blessed ones. We have a so called golden heart and a pure soul. You also have the normal souls, they live in the in-between or Afterlife. Which is Heaven nor Hell. And they say that the doomed souls have a heart of ice, they were all the bad people in the history. Doomed to stay here forever and to work for Hades.” He tried to explain.

“Makes sense, I guess.” I muttered.

“Do you have any idea where we can find the lads? I don’t exactly like this place,” I asked while I took a nervous glance around.

“I assume they are in the dungeons under Hades’ castle,” Jack replied, “and no one likes this place.” He added.

“Where is Hades’ castle? And I thought the Underworld was supposed to be hot?”

Jack huffed in irritation. Clearly he has enough of all my questions I kept asking him.

“In the heart of the Underworld, we have to walk a while for that. And the closer you come to Hades’ castle the higher the temperature becomes.” He told me.

“Why don’t we fly then? My legs are starting to hurt!” I whined and by now Jack looked like he was ready to punch someone.

Suddenly he stopped and looked confused at something in front of us. I turned in the direction he was looking at and saw a light brown wolf who had his teeth bared towards a soul.

“That’s a werewolf,” he stated dumbfounded.

I raised my eyebrows, “Werewolf? I didn’t knew they existed?” I asked in confusion with my head tilted to the side.

“They are supposed to be extinct,” he said.

“If they’re extinct, why is there one in front of us?” I sarcastically said.

He huffed, “Seems like they aren’t extinct at all.”

“Niall?” He asked after a few seconds of looking at the wolf. I hummed in response. “Do you also think that, that wolf has something familiar about him?” He questioned while he crossed his arms.

I looked at the wolf and narrowed my eyes. Since Jack mentioned it the wolf does have something familiar. The familiarity of the colour of his fur and the chocolate brown eyes. My eyes widened when I put two and two together.

“Liam?!” I yelled out. The wolf – or should I say Liam – whipped his head in our direction and he barked and ran towards us. When he stopped in front of us I knew for a fact that it was indeed Liam. The brown fur of the wolf had the same colour as his hair and his eyes were exact the same.

Liam is a werewolf.  

I finally updated! Sorry for the long wait, please forgive me! Also sorry it's kind of short, but better than nothing right? And in case you're wondering how Liam is a werewolf, read the delete scenes I made in the boy's pov. It will make more sense then.
