I starred back at the kind-eyed Asian whose name I now know is Glenn. "My name's Lilly," I whispered shyly.
"Are you okay? What were you running from?" he asked.
"There were a bunch guys chasing me. They were chasing me because I ran away after they killed my father," I replied as tears threatened to spill.
"I'm so sorry. They sound terrible. Do you need a place to stay? Because I'm sure my group wouldn't mind. And it seems like you have no place to go," Glenn said with a warm smile. I nodded. "Okay. Well, the prison is about 4 miles this way," he pointed in the direction in which he came.
"Prison?" I asked, curious as to why they'd be in a prison.
"Yeah, it's probably the most secure place there is," he said. "I have a friend out here with me. I was suppose to be watching his back while he hunts in case a horde appeared or something. Guess I'm not doing my job seeing as I don't know where he went," Glenn said with a small laugh as he ran a hand through his hair. We walked for a couple of minutes when I heard a gruff voice.
"Glenn! Where the hell have ya been? Who the hell is the chick?" he spat.
"Daryl, this is Lilly. She was being chased by this group of men, and she has no place to go. So, I thought we should bring her back to the prison," Glenn said.
"We ain't no damn foster home. We don't need an extra mouth to feed neither," Daryl said angrily. "I barely got enough food to feed us as it is," he said, holding up a few squirrels and a rabbit.
"Did you forget about the fact that we have half the food in the prison too? I know we might have to ration more, but we'll be fine," Glenn reasoned.
"Whatever," Daryl said, rolling his eyes and turning to walk towards the prison.
"I'm sorry about him. He really is a nice guy once you get to know him," Glenn whispered to me. "And trust me, the people back at the prison are a lot nicer than him." I smiled at him hoping he was right

We were probably within a quarter of a mile of the the prison seeing as I could make out what looked like guard towers. All of a sudden, a loud alarm sounded. Daryl and Glenn looked at one another, horrified. The next thing I knew, the took off sprinting towards the prison and I quickly followed. We came bursting through the trees to see the prison swarming with walkers.
"Shit!" Daryl said as we approached the fences. He quickly shot an arrow through the eye of a walker that was just feet in front of him. I grabbed an arrow and shot one that was right behind Daryl. He whipped around, surprised at first, then gave me a short nod. We quickly cleared our way inside, retrieving arrows as went. The inside prison yard was also crawling with walkers. Glenn ran to shut the gates as we came inside. I continued taking out walkers when I heard a voice yell to Daryl, telling him to have one of the prisoners shut of the alarms. Shortly there after, the sound ceased and we took out the remaining walkers. I knew someone else was out here helping us, but I had never really paid any attention to him yet.
As I pulled out my final arrow from one of the walkers, someone said, "Glenn, Daryl, who is this?"
I froze. I knew that voice. It was a voice all too familiar to me. I turned around. "Uncle Rick?!" I gasped.
"Lilly?!" he said surprised. I set down my arrows that I had just retrieved and ran to hug him. I began to cry, pulling him closer to me. "Where are your parents? Paul?" he asked looking down at me.
"Mom was bitten almost as soon as it started. Paul was living in Virginia last time I knew. And Dad...he was just killed by a horrible group of men," I sobbed. This time, Uncle Rick cried with me. He just lost his brother-in-law and now knew the fate of his sister. Then, we heard the sound of a crying baby. We looked towards where the sound was coming from to see Carl holding a newborn baby and walking out of the prison with some younger woman that I did not know.
"Lilly?" he asked.
"Hi, Carl," I smiled, wiping my tears. Rick looked around, behind Carl. The woman who was with Carl shook her head, tears filling her eyes.
"No. Noooo," Rick cried, falling to his knees and burying his face in his hands. Carl began to cry as well and at first, I was confused. Then I began to put it all together. Carl and Uncle Rick were crying. Carl was holding a newborn baby. No. This couldn't be happening.
"Where's Aunt Lori," I whimpered, already knowing the answer. Carl handed the baby over to the woman, came over to me, and hugged me.
"She's dead," he whispered to me. That's it. I am completely and utterly broken. I just lost my father and now my aunt as well. I sat on the ground and pulled my knees into my chest and cried into my knees. I felt Carl sit next to me and pull me into him. "Hey, it's okay. She's in a better place now," he said, rubbing my back.
I looked at him. "I just lost my father too...to terrible people," I sniffled.
I expected Carl to start crying again at that moment since him and my father were really close. Instead, he stood up, anger rushing over his face. "Where are they? Who are they?" he said through gritted teeth.
"Carl, calm down. I don't know. We weren't there for more than a week," I said, standing up.
It was then that I saw Uncle Rick's expression. He looked like he was in shock. "How...how did it happen?" he asked Carl.
"I did it. I shot her," Carl said.
He what?! "What the hell Carl!" I yelled, raising a fist to punch him, only to be stopped by Glenn grabbing my arms. "NO! Let me go! He killed her!" I cried.
Carl came close to me and spoke, "Lilly, she was going to die. We had to cut the baby out of her. She bled out. I didn't want her to become one of them," he said pointing to a dead walker. "So, once she wad dead, I shot her in the head.
It was Uncle Rick who spoke next, "Carl, I'm sorry you had to do that."
"Not, It's okay. I had to do it." The baby began to cry again. Carl walked over to take her. It was then that Glenn let go of me and went over to the woman who was holding the baby. Glenn brought her over to me.
"Maggie, this is Lilly. Lilly, this is my girlfriend, Maggie," he smiled.
"Nice to meet you," I smiled, sticking my hand out for her to shake. Instead of shaking my hand, she pulled me into a hug.
"I'm sorry for your losses," she said.
"Thank you," I replied.
"Let's go in so we can make sure everyone else is okay," Maggie said as she pulled away, looking in the direction of Uncle Rick, who nodded. For Uncle Rick's sake, I hope no one else had died because two losses in one day was more than enough.
