Chapter 1:

3rd Person POV:

** flashback **

"No, no I'm not watching Taylor's kids. You signed up for it, why don't you do it?" Avery exclaimed.

"C'mon Ave. I haven't seen Justin in like forever. Just watch them for me pleaseeeee," Adrianna pouted. Avery rolled her eyes and turned her head towards the window, looking out at the frost filled air and snow covered grass.

Adrianna tapped Avery's shoulder with one hand on the wheel. "Ave!" she ignored her calls "Ave! Avery!" Adrianna shouted at her yet she still ignored her. Adrianna huffed loudly before she started throwing swears.

"You're such a selfish bitch." Even though she'd apologize later, her words felt like knives stabbing Avery in the heart.

"Are you serious, Ave? You are not acting like MY twin. You're being an asshole! Who knows if you even are related to me? Everyone always says you look nothing like our family," Adrianna muttered, yet it sounded like she screamed it in an echoed room. Tears pricked my eyes as Avery pushed them as far as possible in her mind.

Avery turned to look at the person who was sitting next to her. It was as if she was nothing like her charming twin Adrianna. Before she could even blink, a huge truck came crashing into the car. Glass and lights flashed before their eyes. Trying her best to unbuckle hers and Adrianna's seat belts, the car flipped over and multiple cars crashed into the five-year-old red Chevy. Cars crashed from every angle, glass busted in their heads as blood oozed down the side of their faces.

Avery turned her stiff neck to Adrianna and realized she was unconscious. Her eyes flurried and her vision became blurred.

Avery awoke in a bed as her eyes shifted from left to right. She lifted her neck but threw it back into the marshmallow-like pillow due to the intoxicating pain. The door creaked agate and her eyes beamed, but they were still slightly narrow due to the bright light booming into her weak light brown eyes.

A short lady with all white scrubs shuffled her way to the bed side, and checked her temperature, blood pressure, and IV. She began to panic as she thought about what happened. It had to be bad to be in the hospital. Where is everyone? Where's Adrianna? She swung her goose bump filled legs, but she was greeted with a cast colliding with her other leg. Just as her foot touched the marbled flooring, the nurse stopped her.

"You're okay sweetheart. Your family will be right in with you. They are talking with Dr. Janice." The nurse smiled brightly and Avery shook her head. She was in too much of a bad mood to even talk with the nurse. All she wanted to know was what the hell happened?

Just as she began to think about possibilities, her brother rushed into the room to burden her with hugs, kisses, and assuring comments. "Everything will be okay. I'm gonna get you outta this place. I love you. You're okay." He wiped his loving eyes as he just let it all loose. His emotions caught up with Avery's and she began to cry with him but had no clue why.

"I'm so glad you're okay," he sniffled, hugging her tightly.

"W-What happened?" she sniffled. He let go of her and put his hands on her shoulders.

"Adrianna. S-she... d-didn't make it."

And that was it. That was the moment her whole world-- her life-- shattered into a billion, pointless pieces.

"NO!" she screamed, "HOW?!" she yelled, pounding onto Mason's chest. The memories- no the nightmare of a memory flooded back to her. The impact. The argument. "It was my fault!" She sobbed into Mason's chest as he comforted her and let his tears out as well. "It should have been me!"

Mason whispered, "No! Everything's gonna be okay. I promise," he sniffled again, remembering his sister.

That was the moment my life changed.

That was the moment I hated myself.
