"Where were you?"

"What are you doing here?"

We spoke at the same, our words mixing together so that neither of us knew what the other had said.

"Why are you here?" I repeated crossing my arms.

Masons eyes grew wide and he seemed to stand a tad taller. "Why am I here? Girl, you've been missing for the last three and a half hours. Lydia kept calling you. Finally she called me. I've talked to everybody who lives within fifteen miles of you in either direction. Then you come waltzing up and what to know why I'm here? We were just getting ready to call the police! You could've been passed out somewhere!"

"Stop shouting at me!"

"I'm not shouting!" Mason shouted.

A woman walking with a little boy looked over at us. "Mommy, why is that man yelling at that lady?" The little boy lisped.

I couldn't help it. It was too funny. I started giggling which caused Mason to glare at me which caused me to giggle harder. This whole predicament was ridiculous. I come home to find a very upset man sitting in a chair outside my apartment door! How often does something as crazy as that happen?

"Mason, come inside." I said as I unlocked the door and pushed it open.

He didn't answer me, he just held the door and gestured for me to go inside. I went inside and and took off my coat and scarf. When I finished hanging them up I found Mason sitting in the couch studying his hands.

"I'm sorry I-"

"I didn't mean-"

We stopped and Mason smiled at me. "Sit down and tell me what happened? Are you okay?"

I obeyed and couldn't help but think that Mason was a. Pretty nice guy, even if he did just yell at me. I guess this is what it means to have someone care about you. I never went anywhere or did anything besides school while I was living with Lydia. We never had this problem. To be honest, when I agreed to go roller skating I never imagined I would worry everybody. We didn't have plans tonight, I thought I was free to go.

"What happened?" Mason asked again. His tone was polite but forced. He was still upset.

"I met a friend at the bookstore today.."

"And she kidnapped you?"

I giggled at that craziness of that notion. "No, Mason. She's a very nice girl. We ate some dinner and went skating. We didn't have plans. Did we?"

"No."

"Mason, why were up you sitting outside my door?" I know he was worried but I still didn't understand why he chose to pull up a chair and just sit and wait until I came home. Men are so difficult to understand.

"I was waiting for you. I wanted to know you were alright."

"That's all?"

"Isn't that enough of a reason to sit outside someone's door?"

I shook my head and stood up. "You are a strange man, Mason."

Mason chuckled as he stood up and stretched. "I never said I was normal, Kitty. Next time," he said wagging a finger at me. "You let someone know where you are going. Understand."

I couldn't help it, something about that fingering moving in front of my face really irritated me, especially since it was Mason doing it. I grabbed his finger. "Don't treat me like a child, Mason, or else."

Mason pulled his finger from my grasp, he leaned forward, trying to intimidate me. "Or else what?" He asked in a know it all voice.

Ahh! He thought it was just an empty threat. "Or else I will move and not tell you where I've went."

Mason grinned and rocked back on his heels. "Little kitty, I'll still find out." He taunted. "I know for a fact you wouldn't keep such news from a certain lady named Lydia and she and I happen to be very good friends."

"I could forbid her to tell you."

This caused him to break out in a loud deep laughter. "I have the feeling, kitty that nobody forbids Lydia from anything."

I frowned upset at being called out by him. "Don't call me kitty." I growled. "And get out. You've overstayed your welcome here for the next six months."

Mason was still laughing as he walked down the hall. Stupid man, I kicked the couch leg in frustration.
