So, we aren't engaged or anything like that, but Mason and I have been dating exclusively since that night at the restaurant.
I'm the happiest I've ever been, oh it's true, we have our fair share of squabbles. A few ended with him leaving my apartment in a rage, but see we always work it out. I guess that's what love means, sure, you have difficulties, disagreements, problems even. But no matter how bad it gets, you know it would be worse if you didn't have that person. Because there is the good stuff too. Dates to the park, kissing in Lydia's hall. Cuddling, him just holding me when I've had a bad day. Me listening to him talk about his mom when he's especially missing her.
We make a good team, Mason and I. I'm glad it was he that found me that first night. I don't want to imagine my life with my favorite construction worker.
And that's why I've decided that tonight is the night. I'm going to ask Mason to marry me. It's insane, unconventional, and sappy but that's what I'm going to do. I love my Mason, I want a life with him. Our own happily ever after. I asked him over to dinner tonight and he readily agreed. I decided to do it completely formal. I spent a quarter of paycheck on steak and fixings for a dinner to remember. Lydia was kind enough to help me prepare the meal, and I was glad. I was so worried over what he might say, I could hardly focus on the simple tasks Lydia gave me to do.
With the meal made, Lydia left and I hurried to the bedroom to dress from dinner. I wanted to wear something rather special as I didn't think I would ever propose to another guy. I wanted Mason to like what I wore, how I looked. No, that sounds rather vain. The truth is, I knew Mason loved me. I loved him a great deal. But did he love me enough to seriously consider my question? I hoped that my dressing formally would show him that I was serious about my proposal. Choosing a black and lavender A- line dress, I zipped it up and started to work on my hair. The entire time I was fiddling with it, I was praying not to fall asleep during my dinner or worse yet my proposal! Finished curling my hair, I made a small cat eye on both of my eyes and added a bit of mascara. A smear of lip gloss later and I was ready. Well, ready isn't exactly true, physically I was ready but mentally and emotionally I was nowhere near ready. I felt like I was really putting myself out there for Mason. Like I was handing him my heart. Would he accept it with love? Or would he hand it back and walk away? I heard the bell and I walked over to open the door.
"Wow." Mason breathed. "Baby you look so.. hot."
I chuckled even as I took in Mason's appearance, he looked rather hot himself. He wasn't as dress up as I was but he still had made an effort. He wore clean jeans ( I knew this because I could still smell the scent of the fabric softener he used), he also wore a black button down shirt. His sleeves were rolled up past his elbows and I couldn't help but admire the way he looked. No man alive could fill out a shirt and jeans as well as Mason could. "Would you like to come in?" I asked stepping away from the door.
"How about a kiss first?" Without waiting for my reply, Mason gently cupped my face between his hands and lowered his lips to mine. It was a sweet chaste kiss. A kiss that left me wanting so much more. Unable to leave my lips wanting for his, I raised myself on tiptoe and took Mason's lips with mine. All my worried energy expended itself in this kiss, and I felt wonderful as Mason's lips danced a moist dance with mine. "Wow." Drawing back with a smile, Mason stared at me for several seconds in complete silence. His face looked rather fevered, his lips swollen from our passionate kiss.
"What is it?"
"Girl," Mason breathed. "You curl my toes."
A small smile spread across my face. "Come on, dinner is ready." I said leading the way to my perfectly arranged candle-lit table."
"Wow." Mason said observing the table in all its finery. "You went all out. Is this for a special occasion?"
"Umm.. sort of." I mumbled.
"How did you know?"
My forehead wrinkled as I frowned at Mason. "What do you mean?"
"How did you know tonight was a special occasion?"
"ummm.." I had no words as Mason walked over to me until he was so close our bodies were nearly touching, Mason lowered his head until his lips brushed against mine in a just barely felt kiss. Shivers ran down my spine as I longed for him to repeat the action. "I love you, Livy."
"I love you too."
"Enough to be mine?"
I pulled back until I could look up into his smoldering eyes. "To be yours?"
"Do you love me enough to be mine? To be my wife?" Mason pulled his hand from his pocket, he opened his hand to reveal a small diamond ring sitting on his palm.
"Only if you'll be mine." I said, even as I smiled I could feel tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. Mason crushed his lips to mine in an all empowering passionate kiss. His lips worked a spell over mine. Time ceased to exist as the only thing that mattered was the feel of Mason's strong hands on my body, his lips making love to mine in the form of a kiss so sweet and so powerful so as to rival that of the most powerful weapons.
