Sincere
I wrapped my arms around Ja'Quan's neck and pecked his lips. "Why do you have to leave?" I asked him.
He smiled. "You know I need to go to my family reunion. I'll be gone for three days, tops. When I get back I'm yours, a'ight?"
I held out my pinky. "Promise?" I asked him.
"Promise."
He shook my pinky and kissed my forehead one last time before leaving my house. Almost immediately, Effrin's car pulled up and I sighed. What was he doing here? Was he watching me? I leaned up against the door frame, wondering what other kind of crazy show I'd get from him this time. He's been over three other times since Ja'Quan and I got together, always trying to give me money that I don't need. We aren't together anymore and I'm with somebody else, so I see no purpose in giving me money.
When he saw me, he kept the angry expression on his face as he held an envelope with money it. I could see the money spilling over the top of the envelop since he didn't bother to close it. He walked up my porch steps and handed it to me, without saying anything.
"No thank you."
Effrin kissed his lips. "Just take the damn money man."
"No! Why are you always coming by here trying to give me money when I don't need it? I deny you every time you come over, just stop trying," I replied.
"I'm just trying to make sure you're straight, since your lazy ass won't get up and get a job and that crazy ass cousin of yours ain't making no money no more."
I understand where he's coming from trying to help us out, but it's none of his business. He shouldn't be concerned about my income, or the income of my cousin.
I shook my head. "Our income shouldn't be any of your concern Effrin."
He sighed. "My bad, a'ight? I just wanna make sure you're straight. I can't just leave you hanging like this every month."
I looked down at my feet, then back up at him, trying to think of something to say. "Look, I'm just starting to get over you, don't make this more difficult on yourself than it is for me. I'm not even gonna stand here and lie and say I didn't love you at one point, but I'm trying so hard not to love you every day. I have a boyfriend who really cares about me."
He rolled his eyes. "Don't bring that broke ass nigga into this. He's nothing but a phony and you know it. He ain't nothing compared to me," He said trying to dismiss the Ja'Quan subject but I refuse to let him show up to my house and disrespect me, my boyfriend and our relationship.
"I don't give a damn what you think about him, I really like him and you're gonna have to respect that."
"How can I respect it when he's just a lie? And let's not forget the words you ain't say. You like that nigga but you love me. I think I mean more to you than he does."
"It's not a competition Effrin. I'm not in love with you, I have love for you but how can I when you keep acting crazy and delusional like this? I really like Quan. No. Scratch that. I probably love him and I'm not going to let you break us up," I explained to him.
Loving Ja'Quan was out of the ordinary at this moment. I was still in love with Effrin, but it's not like I couldn't imagine myself being in love with Ja'Quan either. With the way Effrin's been acting, he's been pushing me away from him, but that's only leading me into the arms of Quan, who doesn't act like he's lost his mind.
"If only you had this much motivation for our relationship then maybe we'd still be together," he replied smirking at me, like he had a one up on me but he didn't. Effrin was just digging himself deeper into something that was about to explode in his face.
