Sincere

Four weeks later, I peaked my head out of the patio door and instead of seeing Mama and Jerome sitting out there, everybody was sitting out there like they had been waiting on me. Mama smiled when she saw me. "Hey baby, how have you been? That boy of yours told us what happened to you."

"Oh. I'm fine now," I replied, laughing as Quincy engulfed me into a huge hug.

"I missed you Sincere. Please don't ever get into any mess like that again."

I nodded my head. "Trust me I won't Q."

He pulled away and grabbed the bandage on the back of my head. "And what's this for?" he asked, pulling on it.

I smacked his hands away from my head. "Damn it Quincy. That's supposed to be holding in my brains."

Mama gasped. "Baby! Come sit down," she said, getting out of her seat and sitting me down in it.

I laughed. "Mama I'm joking. The doctor put this bandage on my head in case I put too my pressure on it. They stitched up my brains from falling out weeks ago."

Quincy and I laughed as she walked back into the house, clearly traumatized. "Well I'm glad to see that you're back and okay," Monroe finally spoke up.

"Me too," Lynn mumbled, only saying something because Monroe did.

I rolled my eyes, still upset about what they did to me before I was in the hospital when they went through my shit and tried blackmailing me into giving them Effrin's money. I was mad at Quincy too but I couldn't stay mad at him for long. I know he was only hypnotized by the amount of money but low-down shit like that was normal for Monroe and Lynn. I expected them to do foul shit like that.

"Thanks," I mumbled as Effrin came from inside of the house, carrying Victoria in her car seat.

"Man you left me up in there Sin, had me lost," he said, sitting down next to me.

"My bad. You remember everybody right?"

Effrin looked up at my family with the stalest expression on his face as they all returned the same expressions to him. Effrin scoffed and pulled Victoria out of her car seat, ignoring anything I had just said. We all sat outside on the patio in awkward silence. I can only assume that nobody wanted to speak since Effrin was here but they had no reason to be angry with him. We've been through some shit over the years but what couple hasn't? Honestly, I should be mad with all of them. None of them made an effort like Effrin did to come and see me in the hospital, not even my own Mother.

"So uhm, do you plan on staying with Mama and Jerome any longer now?" Monroe asked out of the blue.

I looked over at her and Marcus, sitting closely together. I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know, why?" I asked her.

"I'll talk to you about it later." I nodded my head and just kept quiet like everybody else was doing.

Just like the afternoon, dinner was silent and so was this movie we were all supposed to be bonding over. Mama thought it was a good idea for all of the adults to try and bond, since she could feel the tension between all of us. I don't see how watching movies is going to help us but I guess it's her way of getting us to talk, even though she's too busy entertaining Jerome in the corner.

I sighed and laid my head on Effrin's chest, just wanting to be near him. "Sin?" he whispered.

I pulled my cover closer around our bodies and looked up at him. "Yeah?" I whispered.
