I set the table for supper. Jeff left the room and within seconds the living room blears death metal music. The window plans rattle with each scream. Max covers his tinny ears. I pet his golden hair and made us both a plate. He follows me to the door that leads to the roof. I glance at Jeff to see him pigging out. The noice slowly muffles as the sweet sound of nature overwhelm the 'music'. I place the plates down on a sturdy roof tile as I prostitution Max close to me. I hand him a plate while we slowly eat. Max places his fork back on his half eaten plate and looks at me. I match his gaze.
"Mama... when we are going home?" I let out a sigh. I can't shield him anymore. I can't protect him. I can't do anything but wait until this situation plays in our favor. I close my eyes as a lump in the back of my throat slowly gets bigger.
"Max..," I place my plate down," I love you more than anything. I held you when you were a baby. I made sure you were fed. I did everything I could to make sure that you had everything you wanted," Hot tears form around my eyes," Baby... do you really know what's going on?" He is in blissful ignorance towards the danger. How selfish is it to dump all of this onto his tinny head? If he wants to know about everything; he has a right to know. Max glances at the forest before taking other bite of his mac n cheese.
"We are in deep trouble. Jeff is no angle and EJ is trying to control us. Mary is dead with Ron and you are blamed for their murder..." I stare at Max and couldn't help but laugh.
"I guess you understand more than I do," a few tears fall from my face. I was hysterical for a moment before looking back at Max's worried face.
" Baby... I did kill Mary. I killed her with Jeff's knife," I look back at my plate before taking a small bite. Max continue to stare at me," I didn't want too. Jeff is a terrible man. You need to understand that. He is not our friend, your savor,"
"Don't lie to me again," Max's voice is filled with fear or anger. I couldn't tell but he a right to be angry.
"I promise Maxie," I hold his hand," I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do anymore,"
"Do you miss Mary?" Max asks before taking a bite of his supper.
"Yeah," my voice trials off a bit," Max, the way she looked at me with so much emotion as her soul fades in her eyes... haunts me," I glance at forest ahead of me before letting a soft sigh.
"Did you try to tell anyone?"
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Did you tell Mary or Ron about Jeff?" I shook my head no.
"I couldn't. Jeff is a murder, Max. A monster that became a reality. If I tried to talk, he will either kill you or me," The wind slowly blows through our hair; blowing out the last amount of heat in our food. I place my plate down on the roof tile.
"Are you my mommy or sister?"
