Everything is heavy as I roll over and try to claw myself out of bed. My head is still foggy and clouded from the pills Elvis gave me last night. I hadn't taken them since one of the first nights I got here but Elvis offered me one last night before he went to bed after he paid me a visit. I couldn't help but take it. I know it's a dangerous game I'm playing with myself but... it's not like it every night.
I stare at the ceiling and keep going over last nights events.
They're getting married. Elvis wants me. I want Elvis. This is fucked up.
I manage to make my way stumbling to the bathroom and clutch at the sink. I splash cold water on my face until I feel myself come around more. I focus on my features more in the mirror, scrutinising what I see.
My eyes are swollen from the pills and my lips are swollen from Elvis. I reach up and touch my lips smiling somewhat.
She's pregnant and you're the other woman, and smiling! Classy.
My smile drops immediately and I swear at myself in the mirror. The rose coloured glasses were off now Elvis wasn't around and I'm back to where I started.
I shower and dress quickly making myself ready to face the day. And Elvis.
I head downstairs and straight out to the back of the house where I light a cigarette in the afternoon sun.
Time is so backwards here and not working I have no reason to get up at a reasonable time.
I zone out and finish my first cigarette quickly before starting another. I was still feeling quite drowsy like I was on a come down.
"Hey, I was lookin' for you!" Elvis' voice behind me made me jump.
"Well here I am." I say glancing back before he takes a seat beside me.
"Here." He says offering his open palm to me which had a small white pill in the centre of it.
"What's that?" I ask eyeing it then him. He looks fresh and far more awake than I feel.
"Something to wake you up." He smiles.
I raise an eyebrow at him.
"C'mon, I wouldn't give you anything that could hurt ya." He promises.
I shrug and take the pill quickly, swallowing hard without any water. It's not like I wasn't experienced with uppers.
Elvis now raises his eyebrows at me. I shrug again not wanting to really engage with him until I was really awake.
I slide my cigarettes over to him in an offering. He takes one and lights it quietly.
We sit in silence until I start to feel myself come up. A warm feeling spreads from my head downwards waking every nerve as it does. I close my eyes and embrace it as I used to in university.
"Dawn, you okay?" Elvis' voice cuts through me hard and fast.
My eyes fly open and I beam in his direction.
"I'm fine. Just wanted it to kick in is all."
"Okay then." He laughs, I think it's more at my expression than anything.
I sit trying to control the bubbling inside me before I speak again.
"What are we going to do Elvis?" I ask once I think I've regained some composure.
He sighs. "I don't know."
"What do you want to do?"
He looks at me and smirks. "You."
