"Dan, I'm sorry."
"Ph-Phil! Y-You don't ge-et it!" Dan shouted, pacing the room and grabbing his hair. He still had tears running down his cheeks, and he was in a state of hysteria. He was still having a hard time breathing, and the voices were only getting louder as they talked about their plans for him.
"You're right. I don't. But please calm down. Let's talk about this rationally," Phil said gently, putting a hand on his shoulder. Dan pushed him off, braking down and collapsing for what seemed like the hundredth time.
"I c-can't... I'm s-scared," Dan said between sobs, leaning his head against Phil and holding onto him tightly.
"I know. But I'll protect you, I promise," Phil said gently, leaning his own head on Dan's.
"How? You c-can't stay here a-all the time," Dan said. He could barely hear what he was saying over the voices that were now giving him a migraine.
"No, but if you get a better understand and more control of your emotions, you can live with me," Phil said, looking down at Dan with a small smile.
"R-Really?!" Dan asked, taking his head off of Phil to look at him normally, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
"Well, technically me and my dad. He's making me live with him until... you know who.. get put back in jail. But, it would definitely be the safest place for you right now. And I believe you can get to a point where you can leave," Phil said, smiling at Dan. Dan noticed how his blue eyes lit up when he smiled and blushed slightly. He grinned. He wrapped his arms around Phil's shoulders and hugged him tightly, smiling more than he ever had in his life. He pulled out of the hug, still keeping his arms around Phil's shoulders, and looked depe into Phil's eyes.
Suddenly, their faces were together, their lips connected and moving simultaneously. Phil had obviously initiated the kiss, and for once, Dan didn't mind a kiss. He closed his eyes, his smile only growing wider. The voices were screaming at him, but he ignored them. He wasn't going to let them ruin this moment with Phil. Dan was the one to pull away, but he wasn't upset. He looked at Phil and smiled. Phil smiled back, his tongue sticking out a little.
Suddenly, Phil wasn't Phil. He was one of the kidnappers- Derrick. He had a sly grin on his face as the hospital room turned to the factory where Dan had spent most of his life being tortured and abused. Dan shook his head, not wanting to believe it was happening. He couldn't breathe again. He was hyperventilating.
"Dan? What's wrong?" Derrick asked, but it was with a mocking tone. He didn't mean what he said. Dan's body suddenly filled with rage. This was one of the men who had ruined his life.
Before he knew what he was doing, he was on top of Derrick, choking him. He let out spits of protests before his green eyes turned bright blue. His complexion became pale and suddenly he looked like Phil again.
"D-Dan!" Phil sputtered, trying to pry off his hands. Dan realized what he was doing and removed his hands, jumping off of Phil and collapsing to the ground. He stared at his hands in horror as Phil coughed and caught his breath.
The door flew open. Two doctors and Jackie rushed into the room, one of them holding a syringe. Dan panicked, backing into the corner. I didn't mean to do that! I'm sorry! But no words came out of his mouth. Jackie ran up to Phil. He was trying to say something, but it wasn't coming out.
"St-STOP!" Phil shouted, sitting upright as the doctors surrounded Dan. "He d-didn't mean to! P-Please!" He started coughing again, and Jackie held onto him.
The doctor with the syringe turned. "Are you sure about that? He just choked you!" he said.
"The medicine didn't work," the other doctor murmured. Dan grew confused.
"I'm sure! Please, don't do anything to him!" Phil said desperately. The doctors turned to Dan.
Dan was shaking, scared and confused, still staring at his hands. "I-I didn't m-mean t-to," he stuttered out, staring at the syringe with wide eyes. "I-I d-don't know w-what happened..."
"See! He didn't mean any harm! Just leave him alone!" Phil said, now standing, ready to push the doctors away if needed.
"I'm sorry, Phil, but we can't be sure. We saw the tapes. He attacked you," the doctor with the syringe said, placing it near Dan's neck, which was covered in needle scars from his years of panic attacks at the hospital. He tried to back farther into the corner, but it was no use.
"No!" Phil screamed. "Please, he didn't mean to! Leave him alone!" He tried to run at the doctors, but Jackie held him back. Tears were pricking at his eyes. Dan was just growing more and more scared and confused.
Suddenly, the syringe was stabbed into Dan's neck, followed by another scream of protest from Phil. The plunger was pushed down, and a cold liquid filled Dan's veins. He went limp, his eyes closing. All he heard before he drifted off was Phil screeching.
•••
Dan woke up in the room he was in before with the white-coated people and the syringes. He started panicking. He couldn't remember what happened last time, but he knew it wasn't good if Phil was that upset.
"Ah, so he's awake. Perfect, let's get right into it," a voice echoed through the room, making Dan panic even more. "Don't worry. We just need to do some disciplining. You know you can't attack people."
"I d-didn't mean t-to!" Dan cried in response, on the verge of tears. "I th-thought he was s-someone e-else!" He didn't know what was going to happen, but he was utterly terrified at the thought of discipline.
"And who did you think Phil was?" The voice asked again. Dan realized the voice was coming from behind him.
"I th-thought he w-was a k-kidnapper," Dan murmured.
"A kidnapper? Why would you think that?"
"Phil k-kissed me. A-And that's what they u-used to d-do to m-me..."
"Phil kissed you?"
"Y-Yes! But we both w-wanted to k-kiss!" Dan said desperately, scared of what would happen next.
"Well, that's not a good enough excuse. There is no excuse for attacking people." The voice whispered something to someone next to him, but Dan couldn't hear it over the sound of his heart pounding. He heard the sound of a whip behind him.
"N-No! Please n-no!" Dan screamed. He realized suddenly that he was shirtless and strapped face-down on a table. "D-Don't! I didn't mean to, I s-swear!"
Crack!
Dan let out a piercing scream as the whip smacked against his back. Tears started streaming down his face.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Dan cried harder each time he was hit. The whipping went on for what seemed like hours to him. By the time it was over, Dan was about to pass out.
"Do you know not to attack anyone again?" The voice said. There was a hint of amusement in it.
Dan nodded quickly. He couldn't even talk anymore.
"Good. We'll take you back to your room now." Dan was shaking harder than he had in a long time. He couldn't even move. Hands grabbed at him and pulled him up from the table. They didn't even bother with putting his shirt on.
They pulled the crying boy out of the room and into the hallway. He didn't even protest. They got to his room and threw him in, his back stinging as it hit the padded white floor and stained it red with blood.
They slammed the door shut. Dan let out a small cry of pain, tears flowing down his face again. He was still shaking, his eyes closed shut, barely able to process what had just happened.
THAT'S WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU WHEN WE FIND YOU.
JUST YOU WAIT.
OH, IT'LL ONLY BE MUCH WORSE.
