Chapter Seven

"So, uh- what do you think?" Pete offers Damon another random knickknack from one of his storage shelves.

Damon steps back from the pinball machine "I think it's a hood ornament, Pete. Vintage Rolls-Royce." Damon takes the item from Pete's hand as I ignore Enzo's glances.

Damon hands the 'hood ornament' to me, allowing me to inspect it. "If I may...I believe that Pete here, is in danger of losing a real life. One that actually matters."

I lightly smile, tossing the car-piece to the side.

"Look, I'm just doing what you people asked." Pete growls, brushing past us as he makes his way back over to the shelves.

"Oh, are you? We compelled you to find what we needed. You keep bringing us a bunch of junk." Damon complains, turning away from the pinball machine as my eyes fall onto Pete's watch.

My nose twitches as I continue staring at it, a familiar scent washing past me.

Vervain.

"Where'd you get that watch?" I piped up, nodding to the accessory.

"My son gave it to me. What difference does it make?" Pete looks down at his watch before his eyes meet mine.

"Well, aside from the fact that it could be a family heirloom, quite a bit.." I narrowed my eyes. "Hand it over."

Pete sighed as he reluctantly removed the wrist-watch, tossing it over to me. I swiftly caught it in my hands before it singed my skin, and I dropped it to the floor. "Agh!" I grunted, looking down at my hand.

Enzo's face grows concerned, and he rushes over to me, taking my hand in his. He looks down at it, rubbing the red spot with his thumb as Damon takes a curious step forward. "You're on vervain."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Pete breathed in fear.

"You lied to me, Pete. You lied to all of us." Damon motions to the three of us before he picks up a wrench from a tool-cart. "And you know what happens to liars.."

"Damon-" Enzo tries, but he's too late.

Damon vamp-speeds over to Pete, shoving the wrench into his stomach, causing him to collapse to the floor.

"They go straight to hell." Damon concludes, before a gunshot sounds from behind.

Enzo and I spin around to see Matt holding us at gunpoint. Our hands immediately shoot up in surrender, as Damon grunts in pain, looking down at his bullet-wound.

"Donovan?" Damon grunts, before Matt shoots him one more time, rendering him dead.

We all look at Damon's unconscious figure, before Matt cocks his gun again.

"Matt- what are you doing?" I badger, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Saving my dad, what the hell does it look like I'm doing?" Matt argues, causing me to take a step back.

"I didn't want to hurt him, okay? I just didn't think Damon would actually do anything.." I look down at him, before my eyes land on Matt's father.

"Dad.." Matt rushes over to his father's side. "Don't move, don't move. Let me see it."

Matt lifts his dad's shirt, revealing a hole in his stomach. "Alright, look, it's not that bad, okay? Just keep some pressure on it, you're gonna be fine."

"Don't lie to me, Matt." Pete wheezes, as I share a glance with Enzo, vamp-speeding over to Matt, kneeling beside him and his dad.

Matt stares back at me, where I reluctantly bite into my wrist.
