Chapter Thirteen
✯
Enzo and I were currently on our way to dump off the Maxwell bell, which I took as a great road tripping opportunity after we stopped at a nearby coffee shop to fuel ourselves.
"Did you hear about the brawl at the Grill last night?" Enzo spoke up, causing my eyebrows to furrow. "Yeah, apparently some lunatic showed up ordering half the menu, then trashed a few tables and stabbed a waiter in the neck.."
My eyes widened. "Damn..we're gone for less than a day, and the town suddenly spirals out of control?"
I let out a groan, holding my head as Enzo ran over some rubble in the road, causing the bell in the back of the truck to ring.
"Sorry, love." Enzo apologized. "Peter Maxwell's truck is in dire need of shock absorbers.."
Enzo's eyebrows furrowed. "You all right, love?" he pondered, rubbing my shoulder, before I sat upright, letting out a breath.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I reassured. "Just a supernatural ringing in my ears. That fork-bell combo packs a nasty psychic punch.."
"Yeah, those tie-down straps must have come loose." Enzo shot me a look. "We'll stop up ahead and fix them, and we'll be rid of that noisy bell, and this borrowed car, in no time."
"Where is this secret hiding place of yours, anyway?" he questioned, as a small smile formed on my face.
"It's a surprise." I affirmed, twirling my necklace between my fingers.
"Okay..all right." Enzo mumbled, focusing back on the road.
My phone buzzed, causing me to open up my text from Bonnie, viewing the image she sent over.
"Oh my God.." I let out a laugh.
"What?" Enzo badgered.
"Bonnie and Caroline found their sixth grade bucket-lists." I leaned my head back against the headrest, turning to look at Enzo.
Enzo chuckled. "What about yours?" he asked,
"Given that I was in fourth grade at the time, and only cared about cartoons and crayons, I didn't make one." I acknowledged, causing Enzo to raise an eyebrow.
"Well, if you were to make one, what would be on it? Paris, I presume?" he pondered.
"Yeah. For sure. Though, now I could check it off.." I smiled, furrowing my eyebrows. "What's on your bucket list?"
"You know, I never thought to make one. Being immortal and all." Enzo addressed, looking back over at me. "FOMO really isn't in the vampire vocabulary."
"Oh, come on..there has to be something, or somethings you really want to do. I didn't make one, but I still had a general idea of some crazy things." I admitted, adjusting my position in my seat. "Even some daredevil thrills we haven't tried.."
Enzo shrugged. "Yeah, I suppose I could think of a few."
"Then let's do them- or as many of them as we can." I paused. "We need to take full advantage of the perks of our freedom. You never know, someday, we might not have it.."
Enzo's eyebrows furrowed as his eyes grew narrow. "What do you mean by that?"
I looked down, twirling Enzo's necklace between my fingers once more, regaining his attention. "Nothing it's just- there's no time like the present." I bit my lip.
Enzo inspected my face before he spoke up again. "Well, except we're on a mission."
I rolled my eyes. "We'll still end up at the same destination. Why not make the journey an adventure?" I offered, reaching over to his neck, stroking his hair with my hand.
