Jolting awake I check my phone to see Nick sent a message saying: "Here.". I begin to walk down to the first floor after grabbing my bags and other belongings but I notice the eerie silence of an entire library floor. This silence was unlike the usual study floor. There was no laptop fans, no water bottle crushing as people take a drink, and certainly not a single soul other then myself on that floor or the entire building for that matter.
As I reach the ground floor I see Tyler's white pickup truck idling and I see 3 figures. Tyler, Nick, and Khalil. Tyler is a lean guy dirty blonde hair with a dirty looking ruddy face due to his line of work putting him outside in the desert sun. Nick is a larger white guy, has glasses and pretty full beard and then there is Khalil a bit taller then the rest of us a little over 6 foot and a lighter skin black guy with glasses and light facial hair dusting his face. I walk outside and drop my bags in the back before saying a word.
"Hey, guys... how does it look out there? I haven't seen shit since I passed out after sending the message." I said looking toward the guys who were clearly shaken.
Khalil begins to speak, "Bro, it's wild out there." He motions me toward a clearing looking west toward the Mexican border. The pillars of smoke and fire sent chills down my spine. "Fuck..." I mumbled under my breath.
Looking back at the guys I notice Nick cleaning his glasses while Khalil and Tyler light up a cigarette. Breaking the silence I choke out a sentence,"Well, Yo let's grab some stuff. There should be waters, Monsters and some kind of food in the little shop on the ground floor."
Walking into the library we begin grabbing anything we can: Vitamin Water, bottled water, monster... anything we could get our hands on. As we ferry food and drinks back and forth Nick and Tyler both begin to say something after standing around in silence.
Nick sighs loudly, "Dude... what the fuck do we do?".
Tyler responds quickly, "I don't know, boss." he sits down on a stone ledge out front.
Khalil stops nearby and we all from a circle looking down toward the ground. "We should get guns guys. With the city in this state it's no telling what crazy bastards are out on the streets right now." I say with confidence. They all nod and hop into the truck. I cough and form half a smile, "Well, where to first bitch boys?"
