Jugatxi rang the doorbell, even though Shane knew she had a key. He made his way to open the door. "Hey," he said and "hey" was her response. She stood there without entering and Shane could tell it made her kind of uncomfortable. "Come in, please. I believe you when you say you're my sister," he told her.
She gave him a small smile and stepped through the door. He liked it when she smiled, it made her gold skin and gold hair glow and her blue-green eyes brightened. They looked a bit different, Shane knew, but he did believe that she was his sister. He had seen a picture of his parents. Shane had his father's gray eyes and Jugatxi had his mother's eyes, but they both had their mother's gold hair. "Glad you called," she told Shane.
"I kind of hate that I had to call," he told her honestly."I have nothing to do, and I can't find any chips."
Jugatxi laughed. "If you had gotten your memory back you would have called me anyway." She started walking toward Shane's kitchen and he followed. She jumped on the kitchen counter to reach the highest shelf of the cabinet. When she had opened it, Shane saw a selection of chips. Jugatxi chose a bag of Spicy Nacho Doritos and handed it to him. "So you really want your memory back and you're finally going to let me try to help you?"
Shane opened the bag of Doritos and its tangy aroma made his mouth water. He sighed. "Yes. Do you have any ideas?"
"Well, I have one," Jugatxi shrugged. "You should start packing."
Shane was confused. "Why?"
"Because we're going on a road trip!" Shane gave her the best "Really?" look he could manage. "We used to go on road trips to Texas with mom and dad all the time, and we used to love it. You need to go back to what you love in order to remember who you are; you need a crash course in yourself, Shane Mathias! Oh, and you won't get your memory back in your apartment anyway," she told him in an off-hand sort of way.
"Why?" he asked again.
"You hate your apartment," she shrugged.
Shane scoffed. "That would have been nice to know." He looked around at what he could see of his apartment. It was clean, roomy, and had a great view. "I think it's nice," he said to himself quietly.
Jugatxi heard him. "It's really nice, but you still hate it." She sat on the couch in the living room and then looked at Shane who stood leaning in the doorway eating his Doritos. "Do you need help packing?" she asked. Shane nodded and Jugatxi smiled in an amused, but sad way. She got to it quickly.
She seems really excited about this trip, Shane thought.
