I was in my room, brushing my auburn hair again, and thinking about Marco. I couldn't help but smile at the thought. He has been constantly visiting me for weeks now, giving me hints that he fancies me and I could not help but reciprocate the feeling. I was pulled out of my thought when someone knocked on my door. "Come in." I said.

When the door opened, it revealed my mother grinning from ear to ear. "What is it mother?" I asked.

She walked up towards me and kneels before me, holding my hand as she looks directly into my eyes. "I have news for you, my daughter." I nodded for her to go on. "Marco has asked our permission to wed you."

Although I am incredulously happy, I could not help but feel a bit scared. After all, I am only 16 years old. "Has father agreed?" I asked, hoping that he has. He hasn't really expected any man to pursue me till I am at least 18; I wonder what he has said.

"Of course! He has after all connections with the Medici Family."

We were both interrupted when there's suddenly a bang on the door. It's getting louder and louder that it's almost deafening.

"Vita!"

I opened my eyes and realized that I was only dreaming but the banging of the door isn't. "Vita!" Morgan called as she loudly knocks on my door. "Wake up."

Groaning, I get up from my bed and walk towards the door. I opened it to reveal Morgan anxious to see me. "What is it?"

"You have a visitor."

She gestures for me to look behind her and when I did, I saw Charlotte sitting on the couch with a smile on her face. "Hallo, Vita."

I walk towards her and hug her. At arm's length, I study her. She hasn't changed quite a bit, still the beautifully elegant blond Charlotte. No wonder why Nikolai is head over heels in love with her. "I'm sorry for how I appear." I said in Deutsch. "I did not know you were coming."

She chuckled. "That's alright. I meant to surprise you."

We both sat on the couch to continue our talk. "What brings you here? Nikolai hasn't informed me of his visit this year."

She shook her head lightly. "I did not come here for Nikolai. I came here for you."

"For me?" I said, confused.

"Can we talk somewhere else?" She asked.

"Sure, I'll go ahead and change."

I went to my room and change my clothes, wash my face and teeth and pack my bag. Then my eyes landed on the note again. Will I ever find you?

We walk towards the coffee shop and have coffee while we converse. "So what is it you want to tell me?" I asked in English this time.

She sighed. "Karl told me."

I almost groaned when I heard his name. "If you're going to convince me to go back with him, you're wasting your time."

"It's not about that." She said calmly.

"Then what is?"

"I just want you to know that my cousin did love you. Whatever he hid from you, he did it for a reason." I furrow my eyebrows while looking away, uncomfortable with the topic we're talking about but I did not say anything. "At first he thought it was a silly joke as well when his parents told him about the arrangement. He liked you then so he declined it. I remember him telling me that he didn't want you to think that he's just someone only after the fortune." She paused.
