Zoe's pov

I woke up to my phone's ringtone blaring. The screen read Sussex Police. This, immediately, woke me up and I answered.

"Hello?" My voice still croaky.

"Is this Zoe Irwin?" A man asks.

"Yes."

"This is the Sussex Police calling to inform you that your mother died yesterday night. She overdosed. She left a message for you and your brother. I think you should check it out. I'm sorry for your loss."

"Uh- okay. T-thanks," I hang up.

I didn't know what to say. Instead of talking, I bursted into tears. Yes, I hated her, but she was still a good mother to me, the first 17 years of my life.

I get up off the mattress, careful not to wake Calum up, and walk over to Ashton's room. I hear cries projecting from inside the room. I walk in without knocking, and find Ashton's face buried in his pillow.

"Zoe, it's mom. She's dead," he tells me when he sees me.

"I know," I join him on his bed to hug him.

"I can't believe it. Do you want to go down there?" He asks.

"Yeah," I muffle into his shoulder.

"Today?"

"Yeah. Let's get it over with," I sigh.

"Okay. Let me shower and we can go," he gives me a small smile, with eyes full of pity. I hated the pity look, but I knew that I was giving it to Ashton, too.

I leave his room, and walk into the room, where Michael was snoring away. I go to the closet and pick out my adidas black jacket, black crop top, and black leggings. Along with my black combat boots. I wasn't in the mood to do my makeup, so I placed sunglasses on top of my head, that I would, later, cover my eyes with.

I left the room, to see Calum awake. He looked at me in confusion, "Where are you going?"

I sit down next to him on the mattress, placed in the middle of the living room, "My mom died, and Ashton and I are going to go down to Sussex."

"What?! I'm so sorry, Zoe," he hugs me.

I try my best not to burst into tears.

"Do you want me to go with you?" He asks.

I shake my head and practically jump when Lexi, whom- I thought- was sleeping, sat up on the couch, "I'll go with you guys."

"You don't have to," I tell her.

"It's my loss, too. Your family, is practically my family. Quiero ir," she says.

(Translation: I wanna go)

I sigh, "okay."

Ashton walks out of the shower, using his towel to wipe away the water in his hair.

His eyes widen, "Lexi, when'd you get here?"

She chuckles, "Yesterday."

"I didn't see you!" He says.

"Maybe because the only things you were focused on were Bryana's titties and ass," I mutter.
