We entered a room with a bed and a giant bag of oddly colored fluid. I squeezed Dan's hand as his face paled. The doctor who came to remind Dan of his appointment was standing there. "Hello again, Dan. Are you ready?" He nodded. I let go of his hand as he walked over to the bed. He laid down, and the doctor began setting up the chemicals. Before he poked the needle into Dan's thin arm, he said, "Phil? Can you hold his hand, please." Dan smiled a bit as I went over and lightly grabbed the hand on the arm that wasn't going to be stabbed. "Thanks. I think this'll help him through this a bit." With that, he stabbed the needle in, put a sticky piece of foam around the area, and connected the tube that lead to the bag of chemicals to the needle. The doctor sat at his desk and typed up the answers Dan gave to his questions. Apparently, his appetite has decreased and he's now only eating breakfast. I gave his hand a tiny squeeze when he said that. He smiled up at me sadly. After about half an hour, he started gagging. "Oops. Guess it's time. Phil, please stay here with him." He got up and brought over a trashcan. The next few minutes consisted of me rubbing Dan's back as he lost his breakfast. After a complete hour of being in the room, the doctor unhooked Dan from the now empty bag of chemicals. Dan was a drowsy, pale mess at that point, so the doctor said he's be back in half an hour to help in into a wheelchair. Alone in the room, Dan and I sat in silence- me combing my fingers through his hair as he weakly laid there. He fell asleep soon after, and the doctor brought in a wheelchair in for him. We scooped Dan, still sleeping, into it, and after a quick goodbye, I wheeled him to his room. I softly shut the door behind us, and wheeled him over to the bed. I managed to scoop him up bridal style and gently place him in his bed without waking him up. I pulled the covers over him, brushed the hair out of his face, and left him to rest. Back in my room, I sat on the bed, thinking of what I might have to go through if the operation didn't resolve this. Gosh. I feel bad for him, but I really really hope I don't have to go through it.
An hour later I hear a knock on my door. I open it to find Doctor Brown once again. "Phil! How are you doing?" "Pretty good." "Good. By the way, I just wanted to come down to tell you that we'll need to run some tests on you to see if you're cleared up. If that's the case, then you can go home! But I must warn you that the results might not be promising." "Ok. Sure!" I was so excited to finally get out of here. "Ok. Meet me in the usual room once again in an hour." "Will do!" I closed the door afterwards. Finally I might get out of here. Oh who am I kidding, I WILL get out of here. After that operation, I highly doubt anything bad can happen. I decided to check on Dan again. Just in case he's awake. I open his door to find him sat up in bed watching TV. "Hey, Phil." He said drowsily. "Hey. Are you ok?" "Yea. A bit hungry though." "Want me to get you some food?" "Soup please. I don't think I can hold in solids yet." I walked over to him, hugged him, and walked to the cafeteria to get him his soup. For a cafeteria, there are quite a few options. Should I get him tomato soup? Split pea soup? I think tomato might be best. I grabbed a cup of hot water and an earl grey tea bag to accompany it. I grabbed a tray and placed Dan's stuff on it, and walking back to his room, trying really hard not to drop anything. Thankfully, that didn't happen. Dan was in the same position as I left him with the Food Network on. "I think you might want to turn that off. Nothing worse than tempting yourself with stuff you can't have." "Heh. I guess. Thanks for getting me food." "No problem." I smiled at him as I placed the tray on his lap. He smiled back before hungrily tucking into the tomato soup. "Oh by the way Dan, I have an appointment in about 45 minutes." "Nooo. I wanted to come with you to your next one!" "Aw. I wish you could, but at this point, all I care about is you getting better." He looked so sad, the poor thing. It's for the best. "Well, can you stay with me until then, Phil?" "Sure." Dan lifted up the corner of the sheets and scooted over. I climbed in beside him and put my arm around him. He smiled at me before continuing with his soup. "Yea. Food Network probably isn't the best. What would you like to watch?" "Oh I don't care. I don't really watch TV." "Well, what do you watch?" "Attack on Titan." He looked at me with wide eyes. "No way! So do I! I have the set of DVDs over there. Want to watch it?" I didn't even respond as I leaped out of bed and over to the boxed set. After a few minutes of working out how to set the DVDs up, I climbed back in with Dan as the opening theme song played.
