The other applicants were forced off to one side of the room while Gon and Hanzo stood across from each other, waiting to begin.
*Several Hours Later*
The exam had ended about an hour or so ago. All the passing applicants beside Gon sat in a conference room while Chairman Netero explained the basics of being a Hunter. I find my thoughts drifting back to my match as Netero goes on.
~Flashback~
"The next match is Hisoka versus Ara," the referee announces. I take a deep breath and smile at Leorio and Kurapika, who were watching me with nervous eyes.
"I'll be fine," I tell them, stepping further into the room. I stop when I reach the referee, and turn to face my opponent.
"Begin!" I quickly bring my hands up to guard my face and widen my stance for better balance. Hisoka doesn't move; I don't budge. We stare at each other until I grow impatient, and launch myself at him. I aim a punch at his face, but he sidesteps and throws his fist into my stomach. I double over, curling around his hand as my breath escapes me. Hisoka leans over so his lips were next to my ear.
"I have some information for you regarding the spider," he whispers, and my eyes widen. He retracts his fist, and begins to walk away. "I surrender." I stand still for a moment, then make my way back to Kurapika and Leorio. I sit against the wall, ignoring the boys' questions.
~Reality~
I snap out of my thoughts as the doors slam open. I turn my head to see Gon, anger clear in his eyes. He slowly walks down the steps, heading directly for Illumi.
So Satotz told him, huh? He stops next to Killua's brother, facing him.
"Apologize to Killua!" he yells after a moment. Illumi finally turns his head to look at the young boy.
"Apologize? For what?" he asks cluelessly.
"You don't know what you did wrong?" Gon replies.
"Nope."
"You don't have the right to be his brother," the young boy says angrily.
"Must I earn the right to be his brother?" Illumi turns his head back to the front of the room. Gon suddenly grabs the older man's wrist, yanking him up and over his head. Illumi lands gently on the floor, with no help from Gon.
"He doesn't need to earn the right to be my friend!" Gon shouts, tightening his grip on Illumi's wrist. I wince inwardly, imagining his bone snapping. "Don't bother apologizing. Just take me to see Killua."
"What will you do then?"
"That should be obvious... I'm gonna rescue Killua!"
"You make it sound as though I kidnapped him... He walked away on his own."
"But it wasn't by choice. He was being manipulated by you people. It's the same thing as kidnapping him!" Gon exclaims. After a moment, Netero steps forward.
"We happened to be discussing this very subject, Gon," he says. "Kurapika, Leorio, and Ara have all lodged complaints. The committee has been discussing the fairness of Killua's disqualification."
"Killua has been behaving in a strange manner during and since his battle with the man who called himself Gittarackur!" Kurapika exclaims, standing from his seat. "I believe he was hypnotized into committing murder. Under normal circumstances, it would be impossible to use hypnosis to induce a person to kill. However, as Killua was raised by a family of assassins, murder was a part of his daily life, so it's natural that he would lack the ethical restraint of most!"
