It was 10 pm and I was in the Slytherin common room thinking about the events of the day. I was thinking about that stupid rose that Fred and I both had. Maybe it's just some sort if coincidence. I thought. Maybe he will fall in love with some other chick and I'll fall in love with some other dude. I closed my eyes and sighed. I listened to the calming crackling of the fire coming from the fire place. The only other people in there were Draco Malfoy and his stupid friends. He was bitching about that Harry Potter boy again. I think he was just jealous of him.
Then I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Hey."
"Oh, hey Jo," I said.
"You okay?" She asked sitting down next to me.
"Ya, fine," I lied. She squinted her eyes at me. Obviously suspicious.
"Really because usually you'd be reading a book or transfiguring Carli's hairbrush into a spider." I giggled at that comment. I'd never done that but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't slipped the occasional puking pastel into her mints she keeps in her 400 galleon purse.
"Just thinking," I said moving some pencils around with my wand.
"About what?" She asked.
"Today in Divination we did Tegnlistic Water an-"
"Ooh! I remember doing that last year!" She interrupted. "My thing was a tire. Apparently it meant-"
"Hey! It's my story let me tell it!"
"Right sorry, go on."
"As I was saying, we were using Tegnlistic water and mine was a red rose-"
"Ahhh! That means love!" Jo interrupted again.
"Jo!" I scolded.
"Right, sorry."
"The weird thing is, Fred Weasley had the same exact one." Jo pulled her lips tightly into her mouth and rapidly tapped both of her feet against the floor trying to contain herself.
"Okay you can talk now."
"Ahhhhh!" She let out a high pitched scream of excitement. Malfoy and his friends were judging us from across the room. Jo didn't notice because she was still looking at me. They were frowning at us like we were disgusting.
"C'mon Crabbe, Goyle. Let's go to the boys' dormitory where these stupid girls can't bother us." They snickered and got up to walk to the staircase leading down to their dormitory. Jo heard Malfoy. When they weren't looking, Jo squinted with anger and pulled out her wand. I gave her a look that said what the hell are you doing? But she ignored me. She swished and flicked her wand and whispered very quietly,"Noi Vonavartay!" The spell reached them, but I didn't notice any difference. They disappeared down the stairs.
"What'd you do?" I asked.
"You'll see tomorrow. Anyway, where were we? Oh yeah! YOU'RE GONNA FALL IN LOVE WITH FRED!"
"Jo! Keep your voice down! And maybe that's not what this means. Maybe it means I'm gonna fall in love with someone and so is he. It doesn't necessarily mean with each other."
"I guess you could be right. Oh well see you in the morning. Goodnight," Jo said getting up to leave for the girls' dormitories.
"Wait!"
Jo stopped and turned to face me.
"Yeah?"
"Stay for one game of wizard chess?" I asked motioning my head toward the coffee table where an old but still working playing board sat. She smiled softly and answered,"Yeah, sure one game." I'm very glad to have her as a friend. I'm pretty lucky that a seventh year would want to hang out with me instead of the other students her age. We played an actually kind of boring game of chess. I wouldn't admit I was actually tired, but I think Jo could tell. The whole game I just kept thinking about that stupid rose.
