Brianna's POV

I sat there at breakfast tapping my foot nervously. I was watching students as they piled into the Great Hall groggily with sleep and hunger. I was looking for the familiar neatly combed head of blonde hair that was my friend. Then she walked in and I sighed with relief. She didn't really look like herself. Her hair was brushed but not as neatly, her eyes were puffy, and she walked with her head down. She got a lot of stares from the Slytherin and Ravenclaw tables. One pair eyes were staring more intensely than the rest. Carli looked like she wanted to murder her. Avery kept her head down and sat in her usual spot but didn't face me.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked.
She barely looked over her shoulder to say, "Fine." I was turned completely around now to face her but she had yet to move.
"You weren't in your classes yesterday, I got scared."
"Why are you talking to me?" She asked, STILL not facing me.
"Because we always talk," I said a little offended.
"I thought you wouldn't want to after the incident. Plus you're drawing attention by talking to me."
"I don't care if people are looking!" I said.
"Well I do!" She snapped back, and the Ravenclaw table shook ever so slightly. Then Avery said something that almost broke my heart with pity.
"I just don't want to hurt anybody else." She whispered.

Avery's POV

After last period I went to the common room. It wasn't too terribly busy. A lot of the Ravenclaw kids were in the library studying or an upcoming test. So it was just me, PJ, and maybe 5 other students. PJ and I sat in chairs by the window away from everyone else. It felt kind of awkward being around him now. I wasn't sure what we were. Friends? Dating? Friends who kissed once and have no idea what the fuck to do now? Yeah, I'm gonna go with the third one. PJ was quizzing me for a Transfiguration test but I didn't hear what he had asked because I was looking out the window at the quidditch field and thinking about something else. The test was over history of transfiguration or something like that.
"Avery!" PJ snapped me back into reality.
"Huh?" I looked back at him with my mouth wide open.
"I said, transfiguring people into animals without consent became a crime in what year?" His green eyes looked into mine with his eyebrows raised to his brown curls, awaiting an answer.
"Oh, um... 1932- no wait 23- um 1931!"
"Avery, wrong century. It was 1895. I thought you already knew that, are you okay?"
No I thought. "Yeah fine."
"No you're not," he didn't suggest, but stated because he knew. All I could think was bless this boy.
"People stared at me all day. They were afraid I'd curse them or something."
PJ tossed aside the neatly organized question sheet from his notebook he had been reading from.
"You know you won't, so why are you letting them get to you?"
"That's the thing, I don't know I won't hurt them! I can't control it as well anymore, I'm freaking out PJ! I shook the Ravenclaw table this morning, I'm sure you felt it!"
"Oh that was you?" He asked. I nodded as my eyes welled up with tears.
"I'm scared." I whispered. He got up from his seat and made me move over so he could join me in my over-sized arm chair. I buried my face in his neck and wrapped my arms around his waist and he held me.
"I'm suppose to be able to control this. That's the point of Hogwarts to teach not only how to use magic but how to control it. Six years of it have been wasted. I thought I had the hang of it but I don't." I said. At this point we were alone in the common room. PJ removed some hair from my face and gently tucked it behind my ear.
"I think you should go see Dumbledore." He suggested.
"No I don't need to do that-"
"It's the only way to handle it at this point."
I looked at him searching for an excuse as to why I can't go but I couldn't find one.
"Okay, I'll see Dumbledore."

Brianna's POV

I sat in the library with Fred "studying" which mean our Transfiguration textbooks were on the table in front of us but they weren't opened and we were just talking.
"No way, you did that?" I asked.
"George and I, sure did."
"I can't believe you turned your little brother's stuffed animal into a spider! And that young, you probably didn't even know any spells yet. How'd you do it?"
"I don't know I guess it's one of those things growing up when you can't control your magic yet and weird shit happens all the time. In the Weasley household we call it Magic Puberty."
I laughed and looked down at my bracelet. Every time one of us laughed, the charms that represent us move around more.

I took out my wand and grabbed Fred's left arm.
"What are you doing?" He asked as I pointed my wand at his wrist and said "printo."
"Giving you a tattoo. Don't worry it's temporary."
"I swear too God if you draw a penis on my arm-"
"Relax, I told you I wouldn't do that again."
I carefully drew a rose on his arm similar to the one from Divination with the Tegnlistic water and obviously the one on my bracelet. I watched his face light up as he realized what I was drawing.
"My brother is going to make so much fun of this later." He said. I finished my drawing and admired my work.
"Just keep your long sleeve over it." I said.
"We spend too much time together for him to not notice it."
"Then here, I'll remove it," I said and went to grab his arm. He pulled away and said,
        "No, I like it."
        "That's what I thought."
We sat in silence for a while before he said,"How's Avery? Any better?"
"A little, I guess. I mean she went to her classes today, which is an improvement. But she won't talk to me much."
"I'm sorry," Fred rubbed my back.
"I think she'll be fine though. She's tough." I said.

Fred walked me to the dungeon hallways where I could descend to my wonderfully creepy common room. I held his face in both hands and stood on my tip-toes to kiss him goodnight. He was tall and lanky and I loved that. That night I dreamt of lions running through a bunch of roses. Also Snape was there trying to give all of them detentions for being inconsiderate of Professor Sprout's well grown flowers she'd put so much work into but that doesn't matter, the point is I had a dream.
