YOUR P.O.V

The day was quite long, and I was stressing Christmas immensely. There were only three days left until then, and I still hadn't bought even half of the gifts I was supposed to.

Dan agreed to go shopping with me as he was in the same position... except worse I think. We concurred on the suggestion of Target, then the mall.

All we really did in the car though was blast Christmas songs and sang them.
It really was fun though surprisingly.

It was about eight o'clock and we were out until midnight; maybe slightly after.

It amazed me how many gift cards Dan had bought for everyone while we were at Target. There were ones to Best-Buy, The movie theatre, GameStop, Meijer, and many more. He picked them out like he knew exactly what to get and for whom. It light sounds sort of silly, but it actually impressed me.

I bought mostly small things, chocolates, decor, and some $1 section toys for my little cousins and other small children I knew.

Then, once we checked out and left target, it was around 10:30 P.M.

We packed our things in the back of my trunk and hopped in. Next, it was off to the mall.

-

"I still can't believe you got my car towed away you idiot..." I cussed.

Yes, that's right. Dan had parked in a handicapped spot and got my car towed in consequence.

"I didn't think anything would happen! No one goes around checking that every handicap spot that is taken by a car, MUST be licensed to do so."

He threw his hands in the air then immediately back onto his cold arms as we stood staring at the ticket that was given to him.

"Yes, Dan, that is a job." I rolled my eyes.

"Damn it, I'll have to use the money I was going to buy Phil's gift with as payment for our uber..."

"What were you going to give Phil?" I asked as we began to walk through the parking lot to the warmth of the building.

"Honestly, I'm not quite sure. I'm never sure what to get Phil these days. Hell, I wonder if he'd even show to Christmas." Dan stared down at his feet as we approached one of the many mall entrances.

"that's understandable I guess. I hadn't bought anything for Phil either, but I'm not even sure where to begin."  I announced with a sigh of stress.

"Tch..." Dan snickered as he brought out his phone.

"Hey Dan??" I asked confused.

"Has... has Phil talked to you really since before Breonna left about a week ago?" I questioned.

"No, not really, why?" He said still staring down at his phone.

I paused for a moment then shook my head slightly. "No, never mind."

-

Dan had called an uber and after a wait of about 15 minutes, he arrived.

He wasn't very nice, just seemed tired, old, and crabby. I, being the guilty person I am, still tipped him about $6 though.

As we walked through the door of the room, Dan immediately began calling Phil to tell him the story.

"Phil!! You'd never believe what happened today. Phil? Where'd he go?-"

As Dan walked around screaming, I set my purse down onto a sheet of paper lying in the nightstand which took me by surprise.

I picked the paper up, bringing it slowly closer to me as I read the words written sloppily.

"Everyone.

I'm a screw up. I'm a mess. I'm nothing but a failure to my friends, family, myself, and everything or anyone in between. When I was little, i used to believe I'd grow up to be a fireman or policeman who would give anything to save another and play the 'hero' role. But you know what I am? Im a drug addict, alcoholic, and a scum bag who's better off floating face-down in a river somewhere. I wrote this before I went and got so high and drunk I couldn't tell the difference between reality and my hallucinations. I'm leaving. I don't know where the fuck I'm leaving to yet but I'm going. Don't come find me, please. Especially you, (Y/N), I know you love the Phil you met in the park that one day, but he's gone. Leave him to your memories. If you find me you'll regret it, so let this be your warning.

- Phil."

"Damn it Phil..." Dan whispered with a cracking voice closely to my ear making me jump in surprise.

I was so busy reading his letter I didn't even notice Dan came behind me.

"W-were finding him..." I breathlessly told Dan.

I wasn't crying, it was too shocking for that, but I was panicking. At this point the likely assumption was he was lying dead somewhere.

"Look, (Y/N), we will go look for him. Don't listen to what he says. He's a fool. We've been friends for years and quite frankly, I don't really care who've he's become, or who he thinks he is. But I'm not gonna let him tell me to just forget about him. No one could ever just "forget" him. Not Phil."

"No, instead, tomorrow morning, we're going out and finding him. (Y/N), where is he. I know he heft angered a few times, you're the only one that might know where it is he's-"

I was finished listening to him. I couldn't take it anymore. I stood up and ran out the door, calling an uber as quickly as I could to come and get me.

I figured Dan would run after me, so I hid in the bathrooms until I finally came out notified that the driver arrived.

And to imagine, within a matter of merely a few hours, my life could end in ruins.
