"Five minutes to the bell... c'mon Dot you can do this... you're gonna make it!"
Peridot scribbled frantically on her calculus test, trying to finish before the bell rang. Of course she knew every answer, but she took her time making sure that each one she wrote was perfect. She could hear a couple of people behind her laughing and whispering, since she was the last person in the room still taking the test. Not only that, but she had a bit of a reputation...
"Stupid clods... they probably guessed on every answer! At least I know what I'm doing." She grinned at her thoughts and ignored the kids behind her, who were now throwing little pieces of paper at her messy blonde hair. Peridot ignored them and sunk low into her chair.
There was only a minute left of class when Peridot finished her masterpiece. She shot up out of her chair and made her way over to place her test with the other ones. She carefully put her test on the unruly pile and strutted back to her seat. But, before she could react, she felt herself begin to fall forward towards the floor. She let out a squeal and tried her best to regain her balance, to no avail. She hit the cold tile face first, and the whole class roared with laughter. She felt humiliation and anger rush to her ears.
Someone had tripped her, not anything new. And that someone was Japser; a huge, threatening girl who was never very nice to Peridot...
or anyone, for that matter. The perpetrator smiled devilishly, earning a couple high fives and antagonizing snickers from surrounding classmates. Peridot rolled over onto her back and just laid there, her now broken glasses crooked on her face. She held back the hot tears threatening to spill from her green eyes as everyone continued to carry on and bellow like a pack of hunting dogs.
"Great. My glasses are broken... good thing I have a spare in my pocket..."
The students continued to taunt and laugh while Peridot tried her hardest to ignore them. The instructor, Ms. Holly Blue Agate, stood up. She was the most strict teacher in beach city high, and she was feared by all of her students. Even the Vice Principal himself never stepped foot in her classroom.
The whole class fell silent as she walked to the front of the room. The click of her heels was threatening.
Ms. Agate glared at everyone, and opened her mouth to yell at the class. The bell rang loud and shrill, interrupting her. The students bolted for the door, and one classmate purposely shoved Peridot's stuff off her desk. Some students walked over Peridot, laughing and making fun of her as they walked by."You're such a crybaby."
"Haha! Fag!"
"Go cry to your mom."The tears swelled in Peridot's eyes, and it was almost impossible to keep them from gushing out like a waterfall. Those words cut into her deep like a knife.
She shuddered, trying harder to keep her tears contained.Once the room had finally cleared, she wiped her wet eyes and stuffed her broken glasses into the pocket of her green flannel. She pulled out the spare pair and shoved them onto her face, muttering curses under her breath. Just as she tried to pick herself up off the ground, a hand reached down in front of her to help her up. Peridot blinked, and her eyes widened. Her gaze followed up the slender, toned arm offering the hand.
It was Lapis Lazuli, who was said to be the most beautiful and popular girl in her grade. She had a warm smile on her face, and her blue eyes seemed to sparkle like the ocean on a sunny day. Her dark blue hair curled around her jawline and her bangs almost reached down to cover her eyes, but not quite. It twirled and wired around on her head like a river of water rushing wildly, and yet, so perfectly. Lapis was such an intriguing sight, innocent and remarkable. Everything about her seemed to fog up Peridot's brain.
