Peridot awoke to the blaring sound of her alarm. She groggily turned it off and slipped out of bed.
"Shower." She hissed.
Making her way to the bathroom, she stripped off all of her clothes and shut the door. She stepped into the shower and turned the water on, but as soon as she did, ice cold water rushed down over her. She had turned the wrong knob.
She bellowed out in horror. Peridot fell onto her butt and shrieked, covering her face while helplessly trying to turn the water off. She succeeded, panting. Her eyes were wide.
"That's one way to wake up in the morning.." The blonde thought to herself.
She shivered as she turned the hot water knob. A wave of relief and relaxation splashed over her.
"Aaahhhhhhhh."
After shampooing and scrubbing, Peridot stepped out and dried off. Wrapping a towel around her head, she sang a tune.
"Candy
She's sweet like candy in my veins."
Peridot stepped out of the bathroom and rushed to her room, continuing her song.
"Baby
I'm dyin' for another taste."
Today, for no particular reason at all, Peridot decided to wear her contacts.
She continued to sing as she put them in.
"And every night my mind is runnin' around her
Thunders gettin' louder and louder."
She walks into her closet to pick out some clothes.
"Baby you're like lighting in a bottle."
After deciding on what to wear, a green T-shirt and black jeans with her usual green converse, she went back to the bathroom to blow dry her hair and begin to coat it with gel whilst singing still.
"I can't let you go now that I've got it
And all I need is to be struck by your electric loooooooooooooove."
Peridot tilted her head in the mirror and smiled. Her hair looked acceptional, the usual spikey up-do.
She brushed her teeth, put in her black gages, and headed downstairs with her phone in hand. She grabbed her backpack off the couch, slung it over her shoulder, and left her house to go to school.
She got in her green Jeep and hooked her phone up to the phone-jack so she could blast her favorite song: Electric Love.
"Today's going to be a great day." Peridot thought as the sweet sounds of guitar flooded her ears.
----------------------------------------------------------
-At school-
Peridot parked her Jeep in the same spot she parked every day. She jumped out and locked the door, strolling towards the school.
As she walked in, she felt a wave of fear rush over her. Jasper, the biggest and meanest girl she had ever seen, was waiting at Peridots locker with two other people.
Peridot spun around on her heel and walked back toward the door.
"I can just call in sick, no biggie." She thought.
She stopped when she heard a voice call out to her.
"HEY QUEER, LEAVING SO SOON?!"
The blonde flinched and froze where she was, clenching her fists.
"Maybe if I stand completely still, she won't see me. She'll go away."
She heard footsteps come up from behind her, and a massive, heavy hand came down on her shoulder, turning her around harshly.
There stood Jasper, towering above the little nerd.
"You little brat, answer me when I talk to you." She grasped the collar of Peridot's shirt with one fist and lifted her until she was on her tippy-toes. A small crowd started to form around them, bantering amongst themselves.
Peridot quivered in fear, but tried to muster up the little bit of courage she could. "Jasper, I don't want any trouble. Please, let's just go to class and-"
"NOBODY TELLS ME WHAT TO DO EXCEPT FOR ME!" Jasper interrupted, now yelling.
The small crowd of Jasper's friends surrounding them snickered. Peridot rolled her eyes, wiping Jaspers spittle from her pale, freckled cheek.
"Seriously? That doesn't even make any sense. If you made any sense at all when you talk to me, maybe I would answer. I don't really enjoy conversations with people like you."
The group "ooed" at Peridot's remark, and for a second Peridot was proud of what she said... until she instantly regretted it. Jasper growled and slung Peridot into the lockers, still holding her by the collar of her shirt. The impact rattled through Peridots small form, sending pain over every inch of her body.
"Sass me again, I dare ya!" Jasper howled as the surrounding students laughed.
Peridot was barely associated, accepting her fate. All she could hear was a sweet and comforting voice cutting through the laughter.
"Leave her alone!"
Jasper turned her head as she saw Lapis shove her way through. She stomped over, her blue eyes full of rage.
"Put her down. Now."
Jasper bugged her eyes out and scoffed. "Why do you even care? She's basically worthless."
Lapis grit her teeth and shouted above the noise.
"I care because she's my friend. She's worth something to me. You'd better put her down and be on your way." Lapis emphasized her statement by crossing her arms and blowing a strand of her blue hair out of her face.
Jasper glared down at Lapis before giving in, releasing Peridot with a push. Peridot fell to her knees. "Whatever you say, sweetheart. You're lucky you're so pretty, otherwise I would have smashed your face in for talking to me in that tone."
The crowd disbanded as Jasper stomped off to her class.
Lapis shuddered at the compliment. She knelt down to Peridot and helped her up to her feet. "You ok, Peri?"
Peridot staggered and rubbed at her eyes. "Yeah, I'm ok. Why'd you do that?"
Lapis deadpanned. "Do what?"
"Why'd you stick up for me?"
The bluenette snickered and fixed a stand of Peridot's hair that was drooping. "Because, I care about you. You're my friend, remember? That's what friends do. They've always got each others backs."
Peridot blushed. "T-thanks."
Lapis nudged Peridot with her arm. "Walk with me, we still have thirty minutes before the bell rings."
Peridot looked Lapis in the eye. "Ok."
At that moment, Lapis realized Peridot wasn't wearing her glasses. Her eyes were finally exposed, beautiful piercing emerald spheres that shimmered like jewels, unhidden by those green-tinted glasses. Lapis gawked at the sight and lost all train of thought. She couldn't look away, and the more she looked, the more detailed and sparkly Peridot's eyes became. The forest green shirt she was wearing brought out the color fiercely and made Lapis want to drop to the floor. Everything, the whole world, seemed to stop. Lapis couldn't think, she couldn't move.
She was... frozen.
Peridot tapped Lapis on the shoulder lightly. "Laz? Hello?"
Lapis shook her head and blushed. "I um... the... Uh... Gh- huh?!" The blush reddened. She couldn't even seem to speak English at the moment.
"Damn... They're even more breathtaking than I imagined. I can't look again. Don't look again. Never look again."
Lapis looked somewhere behind Peridot. "Wanna go to the Cafeteria and get some breakfast?" She said, her voice cracking. Peridot raised an eyebrow and nodded, following Lapis as she speed-walked in front of her.
"What's wrong with me?"
---------------------------------------------------
Once they reach the Cafeteria, Lapis was calmed down and dead-set on never looking Peridot in the eyes EVER AGAIN.
She walks over to a table where a bunch of people say her name and get up to greet her. Peridot stands back awkwardly and watches as Lapis hugs a couple of them.
Everyone glares at her and gives her confusing glances, making her rethink coming here. "Should I just leave?"
Peridot turns to walk away, but a familiar voice stops her. "Where you going, Peri? You have to meet everyone!"
Peridot cringes and spins around, walking over to Lapis.
"Alright, Peri. This is my group!"
Peridot looks at the group of people, studying each person. One girl is very pale and skinny with strawberry-blonde hair. Sitting next to her is a short tan girl with purple hair. Then there's a small girl with muscles and a square afro that seemed to be trying to feed the girl sitting next to her some grapes. The girl had long, poofy white hair that almost looked light blue, and she wore a dark blue summer dress. Then, there was a large, tall girl with massive, long, curly pink hair. She looked really friendly. Next to her was a short guy with long brown hair who was tuning a guitar. Finally, sitting at the very end of the table, was a mysterious tall and muscular girl who seemed like she was about 20. She had sunglasses on and a square afro similar to the small girl trying to feed the other girl grapes. They all didn't match, not at all... but it seemed that they were all very close.
"Guys, this is Peridot! She's a new friend of mine."
The group all looked at Peridot and grimaced. They already knew who she was.
The purple-haired girl spoke up. "Uh, Lapis? Ever heard of social suicide?"
Lapis frowned. "You guys are all wrong about her. She's awesome! I hung out with her for a bit last night, and she seems really cool! Just give her a chance..?" The tall woman with massive pink ringlets chuckles angelically and gives Peridot a warm smile.
"We should listen to Lapis, making new friends is an entirely amazing experience in itself!"
The group seemed to sigh or roll their eyes at the comment and nod.
"So Peridot, this is Pearl, Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire, Rose, Greg, and Garnet! ...in that order."
Peridot looked from face to face and frowned. "Lapis, they don't like me. I think I should leave."
"No! Peri please, get to know them!"
Peridot groans. "I have to go to my locker, though!"
Lapis remains persistent.
"Please? For me?"
Peridot squinted up at Lapis, whom was avoiding her emerald gaze... "I have a feeling you always get what you want, Lapis. No matter who it is you're negotiating with." Peridot sat down, and Lapis sat next to her.
Immediately Amethyst started interacting with Peridot.
"So, Peridot... How do you do your hair like that?"
"Well, I just shape it with hair gel in the morning."
Amethyst nodded. "Alright, next question. Is it true that you are a homo?"
Pearl choked and darted her head to the purple haired girl. "Amethyst, what kind of a question is that to ask? It's an extremely personal thing to be asking!"
Amethyst rolled her eyes as Pearl continues to go on and on.
"Ignore the bird, answer the question."
Peridot scratched the back of her neck. "W-well, to be honest, I really don't know. I've never dated anyone, but I am attracted to girls. Uh... I mean... one girl in particular, actually. I've never found myself attracted to a guy."
Amethyst smirked. "So, you're gay for one person?"
"Affirmative."
"Who?"
Peridot smiled. "That is restricted information."
The tan girl nodded again. Peridot thought that she was like a bobble head, and chuckled. "Good one, Peridot."
"Cool. Some of us here are gay too. Pearls gay, Ruby and Sapphire are gay and they are dating, I'm Bi, and uh... I don't know about Garnet. She keeps to herself. Rose and Greg are dating but Rose is Bi, I think... And Lapis? She's gotta be straight. I mean, look at her."
Peridot looked at Lapis, directly into her eyes. Lapis looked into those emerald irises again and felt her heart beating in her throat. Her face felt like it was on fire. "Look away, look away, LOOK AWAY!"
Try as she may, the bluenette could not look away. She was awestruck once again by Peridot's eyes. She was pulled in by the forceful magnetic field of beauty that was Peridots eyes. Then, Peridot looked away and back at Amethyst, saving Lapis from certain death.
Lapis felt her heart ache. She needed to see them again, whether it killed her or not. She needed to get lost in the deep green forest that was Peridot's eyes.
Amethyst threw an apple slice at Lapis, knocking her out of her stupor. "HELLO? Earth to Lapis? The bell just rang, we gotta go!" Lapis looked around to find that Peridot left. She was nowhere to be seen.
"How long was I out of it?"
Lapis looked back at Amethyst who was smirking at her. Lapis felt the need to be defensive.
"What are you looking at?"
Amethyst laughed mockingly. "Yup. Straight as a board."
Lapis flushed red in anger and glared at the shorter girl. "Don't even start, Amethyst."
She merely shrugged in response and continued. "I mean, the way you were looking at Peridot just now seemed pretty straight to me."
Lapis stomped away, with her best friend running to catch up.
"Hey, she seems pretty cute. I might go for it, since you're straight anyways." Amethyst wiggled her eyebrows at Lapis, and her expression only became more angry. "No. Don't even think about it."
At this point, Lapis didn't even know what she was saying. The words just came out.
Amethyst snickered. "Ok ok I won't. She's all yours geez."
"Amethyst, I'm not gay. So SHUT UP!" Lapis raised her voice.
"Yeah yeah, I know. You're as straight as Roses hair."
They walked to their first hour that they had together, Amethyst teasing Lapis the entire way there. Lapis wanted to deny it, she didn't want to admit that... she felt wierd.
She was definitely feeling something different, something she's never felt before. Something she never even DREAMED of feeling. She was so confused, but at the same time she was more certain than she ever had been in her entire life.
"Oh my God... What's happening to me?"
"Am I gay?"
