The Soulless

Chapter 9

"Guys!" I screamed as I dropped my can of peaches. "Run! Grab the food and water and run!"

They didn't even look, they knew. They grabbed the supplies and ran off.

I slowly hobbled behind them.

"Amara here!" Brent said as he gave Amara the food bag. He swept me off my feet and carried me on his back.

We were running and all I could think about was if any of us were going to die. Amara was a few feet ahead of us with Phoebe right behind her.

"Uh oh," Amara sighed. A highway.

"This way," Brent instructed and ran to the left, I guess we were running around the highway, this isn't going to take long at all.

I think we lost them. But we have a lot of lost time to make up. Brent laughed and leaned on a tree.

"What?" I asked.

"Base, it's only like ten minutes away!" he laughed. He swept me up and carried me. Amara was following close behind.

"Look!" he exclaimed. In the distance I saw a fenced in mansion. My mouth dropped.

It was almost in arm reach. I got so happy I got out of Brent's arms.

I sprinted fast to the base and in less then five minutes I was there!

I giggled. I was safe. We could live free.

Brent pushed me up against the fence. I was already out of breath but he just made it worse.

He pushed his lips to mine and suddenly something beeped.

"Wow Brent," someone laughed. "You leave for a day or two and you come back with two new girlfriends."

"Jimmy!" Brent yelled. He gave him a man hug and came and got me. He wrapped his arm around my waist. "This is Evelyn."

I smiled and waved. "That is Amara." Brent continued.

"She's cu-" Jimmy started, "Uh, I mean, where is Jessica and Robert?"

"I don't give a donkeys butt at where Robert is." he mumbled.

I had to look away. I glanced at Amara.

"If you'd ex-excuse me," I tried to say without laughing. I was just so happy that anything could make me laugh hysterically.

"I'm sorry but that is too funny," Amara whispered before collapsing to the ground. We started laughing too hard then we finally stopped.

"What about Jess?" I heard Jimmy ask.

"The soulless got her," I heard Brent say. I then heard him start crying.

I ran up to him and sat him down onto the ground.

I was trying to get his mind off of it after I told Jimmy what happened.

"Let's go get you your rooms, and lets get the dog a proper bath." Jimmy exclaimed.

He put his arm around Amara's shoulder. She looked at me and mouthed the words, "Oh my god!"

I laughed at her and that caught Brent's attention. He laughed too.

I gave her a thumbs up and I was taken to Brent and I's room.

When he opened the door I couldn't believe what I saw...
