Ok? Ok.

Hermione POV

It was nearly time for the yule ball.

Professor McGonagall had explained it to us in the place of Transfiguration yesterday.

Basically, we were supposed to find a partner and take them to the ball which took place during Christmas.

It was childish, but I secretly hoped Percy would ask me.

I knew he probably wouldn't.  He had told me about his deceased girlfriend, Annabeth.  It was obvious he was still mourning her death, and it was pretty clear he had no intention of dating anyone else for a long time.

I wasn't even sure I would go.  No one would ask me.  I could probably go study at the library instea-

I'm suddenly jolted out of my depressing thoughts by a tap on the shoulder.  My head snaps around so fast I nearly get whiplash, and I meet a brown-eyed gaze that seems strangely familiar.  Then it hits me like a metaphorical brick.

"Viktor Krum." I state dubiously.  "What are you doing here?  Do you need a tutor or-" He gives an award winning smile, and gives a throaty chuckle.

"Not about the tutor."  He says, his Bulgarian accent shining clearly through his voice.  "The ball."

"What about it?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.

He laughed again.  "You Brits can be very oblivious sometimes." He spoke slightly broken english, but I didn't mind.  I was too busy staring at his eyes, and defined muscles.  "I was thinking if you would like to go to the ball with me?"

"I-I..." I stammered.  My face felt like it could boil a pot of water, and my face was probably as red as a tomato.  What would Krum want with me?  Why not an attractive veela girl from Beauxbatons?

"What is your answer?" He pestered, his bushy eyebrows crawling down in concern.

"Yes!" I squeal in a high pitched voice.  I clear my throat.  "Yes.  I would enjoy that."

Krum smiled.

"I will see you then, then." He said.  Then he stood up, his gaze lingering on me one last time before waltzing out of the courtyard, into a cheering crowd of Durmstrang students.

I shook my head, and buried my face once again in my book, emerging into the world or gods, Demigods, and monsters.

I was reading a book on Greek mythology.  I figured that with all the demigod business happening around the school, any extra knowledge I could gather would be helpful.

I sighed and shut the book.  I had to get ready for the ball.  It was tomorrow, anyways.  I hurried up the many staircases haunting the castle, and eventually reached the Gryffindor tower.

My eyes searched the common room, checking for anyone who might be there.  Sure enough, I see Percy lounging in an armchair, staring into the fire.  His face was void of emotion, but I saw slight sadness lurking beneath his eyes.

"Hello." I greet.  Percy jumps up and reaches in his pocket, before relaxing at the sight of me.

"Oh.  Hey Hermione." He said, sitting back down.

"What's wrong?" I asked, concern lacing my tone.  "Are you ok?"

Percy shrugged.

"I don't know..." He muttered, rubbing his forehead.  "I hate this stupid ball.  Makes me think too much of..." his voice trailed off, but I knew who he was talking about.  Percy tore his eyes away from the fireplace, and looked down, obviously distraught.  He cleared his throat.  "Yes.  Don't worry about it.  I'm fine."
