Chapter 2: Zane- Silver Ranking POV
The general strode angrily into the room, his emotions almost tangible. I knew why he was so angry, but I thought he would have at least sent a message via Port to me. I guess not.
“Zane, you are a friend, a good friend, but the one you chose, almost got you caught.” “Consider picking one that is more helpless.” “If you did, you would already have her here.” He speaks his thoughts; I know he wants me to pick someone easier. But this girl, Pandora, or Panda as many call her, intrigues me.
“General, I chose her, as law suggests. I will pick her up soon, after this dies out. Their authorities will wear thin, and leave her to her senses.”
“Why not pick her friend, Jade? She’s less of a hassle to you.”
“I chose Pandora.” I tell him adamantly.
“Very well, but tell me this. Why did your suit wear out? Humans shouldn’t be able to see us.” He looks at me curiously.
“I don’t know, maybe some Humans can? That being the case, should I re-modulate the suits?”
“No, they seemed to have worked on the others. By the way, how are they faring with them?”
“I have to hand it to them, even with how weak they are, they are quite stubborn.” He smiles.
“Try offering something that will remind them of home? Might help, it certainly helped with mine.”
“I’ll tell the others of this, is that all?” His markings changed color again.
“That will be all.” He ushers me out of the room with his hands, and calls for a warm drink.
Even he should understand my choice; my markings gave away my feelings to my crew members. I open the door to my quarters and glance around. Today is not a good day for me; my choice almost saw me. Somehow, I need to find out why. This isn’t normal, but I did choose her because she’s unique. Or at least to me she seems unique to me. She has flowing black hair, which seems to become even more beautiful in the moonlight when she’s sleeping. Her skin so pale, her lips so smooth and pink, I think her whole body seems to glow with beauty. I wish she hadn’t seen me earlier, but even so, I knew where she was. From the view screen, I could see her friend singing a lullaby to her. Pandora shook with emotions, if I didn’t feel guilty that I caused her fear, I would think she looks cute. But the guilt ate me, making me want to go down there and calm her.
I wish I could just go now, but I had to wait until her friend had left Pandora alone. And it wasn’t like Pandora’s friend would be alone; I heard Jett was choosing Jade. Sadly, both would only turn to each other, they didn’t want to turn to us, yet. I knew the general’s female had been quite nice to him lately; she had begun to see we weren’t going to hurt them. Good, all of us said, she should already know that misery wasn’t what we planned for them. Almost all of the crew had chosen, not that they had taken any yet though. That was the problem; we couldn’t leave the system until all of them were onboard. I would miss Earth because their climate reminded me of my home planet, which is devoid of any females. Which is what led us to Earth, many races in the system had been waiting for years until they advanced enough for contact to be worthwhile. Hearing the talk, we flew over to watch their race without being noticed. Noticing that most of their populace is female, just our luck. Just our luck to find a race that could do without some females, I thought.
Many of the crew, including me, didn’t fully approve of taking them away. But our future, our race, is dying off. Of course, female company is always nice, not that they would ever let us touch them in the beginning, but they soon change. These people had never been outside their own system, it was sad really. Imagine their surprise. Welcome aboard, you are to become friends with this man, and possibly save our species from extinction. The look on their faces would be priceless, their emotions were less controlled then ours were, so I think a mini spaz attack might occur. The thought almost made me laugh to myself, but I soon found myself staring at the view screen again. So peaceful she looked, her hair smoothed away to reveal her soft face, and the position of her body, which was almost like a curled up deer.
