  • Dedicated to To my cat Princess, for making me think up the idea for the Volddin, little demo

I know, it's short, but this is a filler chapter and personally I can only write so much from his view because he's very...special

Chapter 16: Zane

I awaken to see Tallik next to me, all his armor off and hands and legs tied behind him. I try to move, but see my armor off and everything tied behind me as well. I don’t know what happened, I only know that we lost consciousness and that we are now tied up one-way or another. I do not see anyone in sight, but now that I think about it. The female we had encountered earlier might have been part of the same species that shot us down. My race has actually never seen the species responsible for the disease, or the fairly recent destruction of our ship. Perhaps, these were the people.

Our latest intelligence, that had been sent to us anyway, discovered that they weren’t very large and lived underground. Or had a preference for it, I should have known better than to not order Tallik back. His Bond, or girlfriend, whatever the Earthlings call that, would be worried sick, and so would mine. Although I have a feeling that Pandora will come looking for me if not attended, it is in her nature to take charge. I have a feeling that her feelings for me have only intensified this, and I know how she protects people she loves.

Just look at Jade, her and Pandora’s relationship, and also look at how she treats me, which is a little different. You could say our relationship is…violent, but I call it intense, and besides, she cannot really hurt me that bad. Unless she knows my weak spots, which I doubt she does, unless someone’s been telling her. I really hope not, if I survive this.

I move my foot, trying to nudge Tallik, but end up slipping and kicking him in the side.

“Awaken!” I whisper as loud as I possibly dare, barely touching him again with my foot.

            “Wha-,” Tallik begins.

“Shush, we are compromised.” I make sure to whisper, but my voice is still louder from panic.

“Ah, you’re awake.” The female from before pops into view, obviously from behind an invisibility screen.

            “Why are we tied up?”

“I choose not to answer that question, yet. For now, you will wait here until my superior decides what to do with the two of you.” I was generally surprised, since I hadn’t heard her speak that much before, so a long sentence is unnerving.

“Stop!” I let the authority drip into my voice and she turns around sharply.

“You listen here, Corillian. Stay quiet, or I’ll make you quiet.” She threatens, but I can tell she is sort of afraid of us, with good reason. Up close, we have mental abilities, and Tallik is a better empath than almost everyone in the entire camp.

I can tell that Tallik is sensing her being, and since she cannot feel it, she walks away. I look at Tallik, and he looks back, transmitting his thoughts.

She is afraid of us, and not only that. She is our enemy, the Volddin, and she also knows of our ships destruction. Her name is Enara, daughter of Alroes, who is the captain of their attack vessel.

You got all of that from one mind read? What else did you find? Anything that might help us get out?

Well, they know of our colony, but they are stranded here too. Obviously they were too close when the ship autodestructed and landed here, I can sense many more in lower levels of these caves, and know that they are made by them. Pretty fast work if you ask me.

            Will they harm the colony?

I wish I knew, but I would need more digging around to figure that out. I will go into the minds of everyone I can, and I will also try and confuse them.

            Will they not realize it?

Not if they are trying to focus on something else…

I am going to take a light nap, aware me of any progress you make.

            Yes, Sir.

I move my hands and feet, trying to make myself more confortable, but I can tell that they made them this way for a reason. To make us uncomfortable, and I guess to make us loose morale. I guess if I was not so focused this would bother me immensely, but I focus on Pandora. Calling her spirit, and hoping that she’s close enough for me to call her mind into my own. Perhaps I can make her worry less, and I like to think that this won’t hurt her, but I know it will. So I’ll make it fast, and hope she passes it on.

Pandora, if you can hear me, tell the others that Tallik and I are alive. We are under the captivity of the Volddin, and need help. We are safe for now; please do not attempt anything illogical on my behalf. I could not live if I knew doing so hurt you. I send this over, and can almost feel her pain.

I flinch away, and feel Tallik’s eyes boring into mine. I try not to glare back at him, but her pain is blaring through the connection and I cannot help but glare when my eyes meet his.

“You did the Connection. I did not think that was possibly from this distance…for you.”

“You could have attempted it, but I know that you do not like to use your abilities to that extent.”

“Thank you…” He mutters, focusing his mind back on his task, and I relax my tense position back to the ground.
