"I'm sorry, but you've missed them. You should try northern Sweden." A local Norwegian man whom spoke English told you.

You sighed. "Okay." The next day, you booked a flight from Norway to Sweden.

You landed and drove a rental car to the small Swedish village Jukkasjärvi.

You asked the only English speaking person in the village if you could see them from there.

"I'm sorry, but the season just 'nded. They are not visible 'nymore. Ye should try Canada." The lady told you.

You were starting to give up on seeing them in the sky.

You nodded and left, booking a flight to northern Canada the next day. You arrived and headed to a valley where they have been reportedly seen by travelers and tourists.

A park ranger who you asked frowned. "I'm sorry miss. The season here just ended, eh. Perhaps you might try Iceland. I hear the lights are active there."

"Thank you sir." You booked a flight to Iceland that night, and drove to an airport the following morning.

You arrived in Iceland, and got off of the plane and were surprised at how cold it was.

You went up to a handsome looking stranger whom was on his way out of the airport.

"Excuse me.." You tapped his shoulder.

He turned around. "Yes?" He had pale blonde hair and violet/blue eyes.

"Do you know any good places to see the Northern Lights here?" You asked.

He nodded, smiling softly. "Yeah, I am going to see them tonight. Do you wanna come with me?" He spoke in an Icelandic accent, so he was a local here.

"That would be awesome!!" You told him.

He smiled wider. "Would you like a ride to a hotel? I see you just arrived."

You nodded. "Yeah, thank you."

He drove you to a hotel, and you both introduced yourselves to each other. Emil dropped you off and gave you money to check into a room.

He said he'd pick you up at eight to go see the lights in a meadow about half an hour from the hotel.

Emil said there will be other people there and to bring plenty of blankets, since it was supposed to hit below freezing that night.

So the day went and you changed your clothes and grabbed as many blankets as you could carry without falling, and stood inside the lobby of the hotel watching for Emil's car.

It pulled up and you ran out of the lobby to his car.

You got in and a puffin landed on your shoulder. "Is this your puffin?" You asked, and he looked over at you, then sweatdropped.

"Yeah, sorry.. Come here Mr. Puffin." He told the bird, and it flew up to his shoulder and perched itself there.

You laughed as Emil began driving, talking to you about his family.

You told him stuff about you and before you knew it, you were there.

He set out your blankets then wrapped them around you both. Other people were there, but had scattered out over the kilometer long meadow with the sky above it.

"When are they gonna start?" You asked, eating a cookie from your shared cocoon of blankets.

"In a few minutes.." He whispered back.

You two looked at the millions of bright stars shining clearly in the sky. They were never this bright back in your country. Never this clear, either.

Emil watched the stars with joy in his eyes, and the joy increased when he saw a sudden streak of green across the sky.

"Look!" He exclaimed, and you watched as a flash of green split across the sky.

It looked like the sky had cracked and the crack was glowing bright green for a moment, before it suddenly split open and the green lights slowly started to move, a bit of red in the lights too. It looked amazing.

"Wow.." You breathed, snuggling closer to Emil.

The reactions of the people around you were classic. "Oohs" and "Ahhs".

The lights slowly started to turn a turquoise green color.

"That's odd.. and very rare.." Emil muttered, watching in awe.

Your eyes grew misty, and you sniffled as you watched the dancing colors across the clear, crisp night sky.

"Are you okay?" Emil asked tenderly.

"I've worked so hard to get here, so hard to see these amazing northern lights.. and I'm seeing them now. With you.." You placed a soft kiss on Emil's lips.

"Thank you.." Emil pulled you closer to him and you rested your head on his shoulder as you watched the colorful works of nature show themselves in a breathtaking manner.

You'll never forget this night.
