Sitting in my office, staring at the amount of images I have stored up of my precious ruby, brings back all those memories of when I'd just sit here and think of Athena and the great fucks we had but now, I sit here and think about Ruby and all the wonderful moments we have.

I was just putting my photos away when William, my boss, barges into my office. William loved my idea regarding this company so he made me a deal, he'd be the boss of everyone — including me — and I'll be the boss of everyone below me since it was my idea. However, I know I have to suck up to his ass since he's still the top boss. If I don't, I could be fired.

"Nicolas," William speaks, a certain tone of disappointment in his voice. "You're no longer a child so I'll be forward with you. You're being demoted."

"What!?" I raise my voice, alarmed. "What for?"

"For the possession of drugs in the office, that's why!" He roars, "Nicolas, how could you store drugs here? Do you know what it could do to the company!? You're the boss and being the boss means you have to be a role model for the losers down there! The coworkers must look up to you and with you possessing drugs here, no one will look up to you. I'm sorry, Nicolas."

Drugs? I don't remember hiding the drugs — fuck! "William —"

"I'm not going to give you another chance, Nicolas. The position of being the boss is already filled by Serena." William says, I'm baffled.

"A woman? I'm not trying to be sexist here, William, but I don't think a woman should run this company. How will that look?" I've never heard of a woman CEO and I highly doubt anyone will respect this company with one. I'm not saying women cannot be a boss, they can, just not of this specific company.

"Serena is my wife, Nicolas. She knows her way around businesses and she knows everything there is to know about a company." William frowns, "She'll be great."

I see there is no use in arguing with him. It's just a demotion, I'll still be in the top building with him and his wife, it's fine with me.

"That will be your cubicle right there," he says pointing to the cubicle right in front of the office where Serena can get a full view of what I'm doing.

"Just give me a minute to gather my things," I say. The first thing I grab are Ruby's photos. I wouldn't want Serena to see them and think I was some obsessed stalker. That wouldn't do me any good. They already busted me for hiding the goods Carl had given me to sell.

I organize my things in the cubicle and take a seat as I watch William and Serena settle into my office. This is merde.

On the way home, I stop in front of Ruby's house only to find that no one is there anymore. There is a for sale sign up front. Eddie must've taken her into another home.

Regina and I settled into our new home as well, just a year ago. I make sure I check on Athena every now and then just to make sure she doesn't need anything. I won't lie, the news she gave me of her sensing her passing sort of worries me. It's been a year, she's still here so maybe she had false illusions. I hope that's the case because what mother would like to pass without speaking to their child once more?

I know my mother didn't want to, she waited until I got to her side. "Treat your wife with respect and give her all the love she deserves; she's such a remarkable woman, Nicolas. I love you both, so much." She said. If she knew what I had done to Ruby, she'd slap me silly until I realized I made a mistake. My father, however, didn't want me there. He was so possessive of my mother. He never wanted me to get within an arms reach of her. "She's my wife, get away!" He'd roar. "No one touches my wife!"
