Joey's Pov

Today is the day.

Alcoholics Anonymous group is today.

This process is already hell. I haven't had a drink in four days. I can tell that I have a problem now.

This better be worth it.

I take a shower, and grab another water from the rifridgetaor, looking over at the emtpy shot glass next to me.

Once I'm dressed, I leave my appartment, and head to the place where the meeting is. My hands sweat while I'm drving.

This can't be beneficial.

It's just a bunch of people with the same problem as me, who will proably judge me.

I'm inturrupted from my thoughts when I realize that I'm there. I look up at the building. I didn't expect it  to be this big.

I walks into the builing as a woman says,

"Hello. How are you?"

"Just fine." I say flatly.

"Are you here for the group meeting or-"

"Yeah, for the group meeting."

"First timer? I don't think I've ever seen you here before."

"Yeah, actually."

"Thought so. I know this seems like a drag but trust me, it pays off."

"I hope you're right."

"Trust me, I am."

She hands me a name tag, giving me a pen and tells me to write my name on it. Once I do, she leads me to a room just down the hall, and wishes me good luck again.

I  slowly open the door, walking in.

I feel the eyes on me, as I walk across the room, fiding a chair and sitting down. What's weird is that I don't think they were actually talking before I arrived.

"Welcome, newcomer." a guy about my age with Ray Bands glasses says to me.

"Um, Hi." I say. This is really uncomfortable.

"What's your name?"

"Joey." I say, feeling everyone's eyes still on me.

"Well, welcome, Joey." he says, everyone finally looking away from me as he continues,

"We'll go in a clockwise circle. When it's your turn, I want everyone to tell  the group why they are here today."

We go in a circle, everyone telling their stories, everyone's being typical.

Just how I expected it.

I eventually told mine which, was of course, humiliating.

Then it gets to Toby.

"It started after my girlfiend died." he paused.

My heart stopped when he said this.

"I took her on a cruise. For our annaversary. We were swimming in a beautiful lake when....." another pause.

"I said, 'Babe watch out!' Litlle did she know, there was a giant shark right behind her. I tried to get her away from it, but, it was too late." he says, everyone in silent shock.

"So yeah, my story is similar to Joey's. Lost someone important to me, then developed a drinking habit."

There was about a ten minute closing to ther meeting, basically telling when the next one will be.

Then it ended. Fianlly.

Everyone scrambled out of the room, Toby calling me.

"Joey. Just know, I know what you're going through." he says.

I nodd and walk outside to my car. I buckle my seat belf and start the engine, but not before texing someone.

Joey: Hey, meetings over.

Alyssa: How'd it go?

Joey: I hated it. But this guy had a similar story to mine.

Alyssa: That's a really good thing!

Joey: If you say so

Joey: Wanna come over?

Alyssa: Sure, Sawyer's at the store so we have at least an hour.

Joey: You make it sound like wer'e sneaking arpund, doing things behind his back.

Alyssa: Aren't we? ;)

I got home, and resisted getting a beer from the refridegorator, getting another water instead when I heard the doorbell ring.

"Hey!" she says and hugs me.

"Hey." I say, hugging her back, not sure why, though.

"So, I'm glad the meeting went well." she says, wrapping her arms around my neck.

"Me too."

We kiss again. This one lasting longer than last time.
