“School work done?” Darry asked me.

“Always,” I replied as I got dressed in the bathroom.

“I swear, Torrie gets you to do your homework in a hurry,” he said with a laugh of disbelief.

“She’s the better half of me,” I replied and I looked at myself in the mirror.

“You’re not growing any facial hair soon Ponyboy, so keep dreaming,” a sleepy Soda said as he came into the bathroom.

“I was just checking,” I replied.

“How was your night at her house?” Soda asked me.

“It was good. I got to hold her all night, and she slept like an angel,” I answered.

“Did you ask her to go steady?”

“Not yet…we aren’t even dating,” I answered.

“Why is that?”

“We haven’t known each other that long,” I replied and I left the bathroom and went into the kitchen.

“Howdy ya’ll!” Two-Bit shouted as he entered the kitchen with Ember. Ember shined in her black dress and her blue eye-shadow.

“Hi Ember,” I said and she smiled.

“Hello Ponyboy,” she replied.

“How are you?” I asked her.

“I am well, and you?” She replied.

“Just waiting for Torrie to get here. I’m going to take her somewhere special,” I said with a smile.

“That’s good. Can you tell her I said hi? Two-Bit is taking me to bar in a few, so I won’t be able to tell her hi,” she replied.

“I can do that for you,” I said and she nodded and walked away with Two-Bit. I then heard someone walk in.

“Torrie’s here!” Soda yelled.

“I see that,” I said as I entered the living-room. Torrie was wearing a blue shirt and jeans and she had a leather jacket on.

“So where are you taking me?” She asked me.

“Somewhere special,” I answered.

“Ready?” She asked.

I nodded and took her hand in mine and we left my house. I took her the park nearby my house and near the lot Johnny used to sleep in all the time. It was still quiet and even though Bob was killed there, I felt nothing about going there anymore. It used to haunt me, but I guess I’m getting over that chapter in my life. I guess that’s good because that means I’m getting better, every second and every day.

“You wanted to take me to a park?” She asked and she looked at me.

“To look up at the clouds and to enjoy a little picnic that I made myself. I didn’t want you to pay for anything so I got a job at a store nearby,” I said in reply to her.

“You got a job?” She asked me.

“I didn’t want to waste all the money you gave me and my brothers. I want to use that for bills and emergency and this, this isn’t an emergency,” I replied.

“You are so sweet Pony,” she said to me.

“I try to be,” I replied.

“So, how long are we watching these majestic clouds?”

“For an hour or two. Trust me, you will love saying what shapes or what things they look like,” I said to her.

“I trust you, and I always will,” she replied and she laid by me on the blanket that I had laid down. She looked over at me and smiled. I smiled and we watched the clouds go by and we said what they reminded us of. It brought a bunch of laughter to the both of us because it was random, but funny to say animals and shapes. I think she’s the only girl to ever really accept me and ignore my social class.
