When school came around on Monday, I have learned enough about Torrie to understand her. She was easy going and loved to ride horses. I never met anyone like her, and for that reason she was hard to ignore. Our project is due a week from now and we were almost finished with it, now that’s what I call team work. Torrie however, never asked about Johnny and Dallas since we met…it kind of bothered me.

Torrie wore a yellow dress that covered her knees and she had regular tennis shoes on. Did the other socials know that she was once a greaser? Torrie didn’t look a thing like us greasers do, she seemed above us. Her smile was worth millions of dollars to me, and I couldn’t even afford that. She was so different; she didn’t seem like the person to hang with me.

During math class she worked with me. “How come you never ask about Johnny and Dallas?”

She looked up at me and replied, “Because it is none of my business to ask about them. I heard about Dallas Winston.”

“What did you hear about him?” I asked her.

“He went to jail and he lived in New York and had quite a reputation there. He was tough, and he liked fights,” she replied.

A jet black hair female walked into the room and sat alone in the corner. She held her notebooks against her chest and she didn’t look happy. She seemed alone and upset, Torrie noticed this and invited her to our group. The girl kept looking down even as she approached us. She sat down next to Torrie and she forced a smile.

“I’m Torrie, and this is Ponyboy Curtis,” Torrie said as she introduced us to the girl.

“I’m Ember Summers, nice to meet you both. Ponyboy, eh?” She replied.

“Yes,” I said.

“You knew Johnny right?” Ember asked me.

“Yeah, why?” I answered.

“I was his girlfriend,” she said.

I then remembered a black hair girl at the funeral standing alone in the corner crying her eyes out, she wore a black lace dress with a black hat. She wore red lipstick that dad as well as black eye shadow. She carried a black umbrella to keep the sun out of her eyes, this was Johnny’s girlfriend. Ember was skinner now, and unhappy. The gang has to meet her, this was Johnny’s girl and Johnny never mentioned her.

“How come Johnny never mentioned you?” I asked her.

She smiled and said, “Johnny never spoke much. That’s why we started dating I guess. We are both very silent, and the world brought us together…he had so much life in him.”

Torrie smiled, “I heard Johnny was as sweet as can be.”

“You heard right. I’m sorry I never talked to you before Pony, I’ve been out of school for a while now,” Ember said. I could tell why she hasn’t been at school. Johnny was her world and she lost him, which has to be tough.

“How about you come to my house after school and meet the gang? It would make them happy to have someone who loved Johnny as much as we did around,” I suggested.

She laughed, “I will love to. I have nothing else planned for the evening.”

Torrie smiled at me, “The gang is the best.”

I laughed, “Sit with us at lunch and we will talk more about the gang.”

At lunch I told Ember about the rest of the gang, including me. She listened carefully and was laughing at all the detail I had said about everyone. I could see why Johnny loved her, you can still see the life she once had glowing in her eyes there.  She was lost and needed people to bring her back on track. Torrie told Ember about herself, and they seemed to get along.
