Do you have goals?

A goal is a result that one is attempting to achieve; the result or aspiration toward which effort is directed to achieve at a particular time. Goals have to be SMART that is S-specific, M-measurable, A-achievable, R-realistic and T-time Bound. Even spiritual goals need these qualities, it is essential.

Now when you read or hear some sermons on having goals, the first things that come to mind are money gaols, academic goals or relationship goals. Do we ever consider spiritual goals that will help us mature spiritually in our walk with God?

Many of us Christians just wake up every day doing the same things we do every day, and we surprisingly expect to move forward; we all know that only new actions give new results. So ask yourself, what have I done differently to better or grow my spiritual life?

This defines the importance we accord to our spiritual lives and how much we value our relationship with God. It also shows the place God has in our lives; just maybe we have other priorities before God. That is why we wake up each morning planning for other things, murmuring a little prayer and asking God to be in charge but not giving enough time to God and really communicating or listening to Him.

Not having spiritual goals means you do not have plans on growing deeper with God or taking your relationship with Him to another level. We plan vacation trips with our families and loved ones just to get to know what’s going on in their lives and how they have been, but do we plan to spend such quality time to get to know God better? We should know that having spiritual goals is more important than all these other things because only He can lead you aright in all your other plans.

We are been distracted by earning a living and several other things that we forget the most important thing. God is happy when we place Him first and plan meetings with Him making sure we get to know Him more and grow in Him. Imagine how your best friend would feel if you stop spending time with him/her; God is feeling that and more because He loves you so much and wants you to plan for your relationship with Him, He wants you to pay attention to His feelings, He wants you to create time for Him, He wants you to love Him more, He wants you to think about Him all the time, He wants you to be committed to everything that concerns Him, He wants you to have continuous goals for your relationship with Him. Plan for special prayer time, plan for special bible study time, plan for retreats, plan for beautiful sessions with the Holy Spirit that will help you get to that intended place with God.
