"I want chocolate ice cream for dinner!" Serenity all but demands with a pout on her lips as you place a plate of meatloaf and veggies in front of her.
"You can't have ice cream for dinner, Ser," You shake your head as you sit down in front of the small child in your own chair. "Maybe after dinner- if you are good- Momma and I can take you to go get some ice cream."
The small child crosses her arms in front of her chest. "I want ice cream now, though." Her eyes narrow at the plate in front of her. "I don't like meatloaf."
"Serenity," Sarah sits down beside you with her own plate and looks at your daughter. "Eat your food."
"Okay, Momma," Serenity says happily as she grabs her fork and lifts a piece of meatloaf into her mouth.
You look over at Sarah with disbelief in your eyes. You mouth to her, "How do you do that?" And she simply shrugs before beginning to eat herself.
After a few minutes of comfortable silence you ask your wife how her day went. "Great," She takes a sip of her water. "They called to tell me they are almost done with the movie. Editing it, I mean." She clarifies.
"I can't wait to see it, love." You reply honestly.
"How was your day, little one?" Sarah inquires from Serenity.
"Mrs.Barton is teaching us how to read," The girl scrunches up her nose. "but I already know how!"
Sarah smiles proudly at the girl. "Yes," She nods her head. "yes you do, baby girl, but not everyone can at your age. So, your teacher has to teach those who don't know how to."
"Mrs.Barton says I am ad-advanced!"
"Advanced?" You laugh at the girl's choice of words.
"Yeah, Mommy!" Serenity puts her fork down on the table, and begins to use big hand gestures. In attempt to prove her point. "She says I'm smart."
"You are very smart, baby." Sarah says patting Serenity's back. "We are very proud of you."
"Thank you," The girl bobs her head. "I love you Mommies."
"We love you too, Serenity." You reply. "Very, very much."
