Denmark hadn't wanted to fight in the First Schleswig War because Prussia was on the opposing side, and they considered each other close friends even though their countries had many conflicts. When the war ended, resulting in a Danish victory, he felt so guilty that he tossed aside his pride and went to Sweden for comfort.
