Danny’s POV:
When I woke up in the morning, I didn’t want to talk to my parents. I hated keeping things from them, especially a huge secret that could affect everything. Kasia was in two of my classes and I told her to meet me outside at lunch. I tapped my feet on the ground as I listened to music with my earphones. I looked up to see a pair of Doc Martens boots walking toward me.
“Hey.” I said as I took out my ear buds. She looks at me with an uncertain look. “Kasia, I wanted to ask you something. 11 years ago, when those guys kidnapped us, why did you save me?” She looks away and clutches her arm.
“Danny, saving you was the only thing I could do. I could never let you be killed. Those guys were hunters Danny. They would have promised to not kill me but they would in the end. I-I just wanted to do one last thing before I left. You’re my brother Danny; I would never want you to get hurt. But the only way out was to turn myself in. And that’s what I did.” Kasia said as she looked up into the trees above us with tears in her eyes. I could tell that she was trying to hold them back.
“You could have been killed, Kasia. You’re my sister and that’s the last thing I wanted. I thought they killed you. I-I thought that I would never see that smile again! I thought that I would never hear your laugh, ever again! I cried for days, thinking that I let you die. When the police asked me what happened I would just burst into tears because I had thought that it was all my fault! I just couldn’t bare that fact.” I said as my own eyes started to fill with tears.
“I couldn’t go back, Danny. It was too dangerous for me and for you.” She said as she walked away.
“Just promise me one thing.” I said to her which causes her to stay for one more moment. “Don’t ever leave again.”
“I can’t promise that. You have to understand.” I watched her back fade away into the rainy forest. That was when I realized that the small little girl I had known so long ago had disappeared. That shy girl didn’t exist anymore. The follower has become a leader, I thought to myself. A fierce one at that.
Scott’s POV:
“Alright, is everyone here?” Derek yelled with his strong voice. Kasia’s powers were strong. They had gotten at least 2-3 more wolf packs. They all stared intently at Derek, Jake, and Kasia as they explained the plan. The murmurs of the wolves were quickly shut off when Kasia growled at the audience. “Alright, so the hunters will be looking for us at around 8. They will come to the warehouse down the hill looking for one small pack of wolves but instead, they’ll find us. Mr. Argent found out that there are at least 37 hunters. Of course, they’ll be outnumbered with 10 alphas, one infinite wolf, and 32 betas. To be able to win, we have to be able to work together no matter how much you may hate the others. Are we clear?” Kasia says but I could see that some wolves were uncertain and unsatisfied. “Let me rephrase that. If you don’t get along with the others, I’m going to kill you.” She says with a straight face but I knew she was kidding. Obviously the other wolves didn’t understand her sarcasm so they looked pretty scared.
We split up into groups of 6 and travelled out to surround the area. I was in a group with the Alpha twins, Kasia, Jake, and Stiles. Of course, Stiles took a lot of convincing and persuading to come with us and not hole up in his bedroom while everything happens. But a solid growl and show of fangs from Kasia seemed to change his mind. I laughed at the thought. They were so different yet so perfect together. There were 7 groups and all of them had at least one alpha. Our groups seemed unfair with the alpha twins, and Kasia. And also considering the fact that I was an alpha now too, but let’s put that aside for now. We have a small anchor on our team named Stiles and he’s my best friend and he’s pretty smart, but not so good in the strength section. He hid behind us but quickly changed his mind after hearing a rustle of leaves from behind caused by a mouse. He was now placed in the center of the group where no one can harm him.
We trudged along the woods that now felt more like home, compared to a few years back when I would have never stepped foot into the forest without an inhaler, flashlight, and never mind the fact that it’s already pitch dark outside. Now that I think about it, Stiles and I had gone through a lot the past few years. He was always there for me since the start and there’s no doubt that he will be there for me in the future too. A real friendship is when you can laugh together, cry together, and soldier on together even if the problem is not even yours. This was true, I mean all this werewolf stuff was all me but he didn’t run away in the opposite direction after finding out that I was an mystical creature from some fairytale. He stayed, and helped me along the way. And I couldn’t have asked for a better best friend that’s, smart, sarcastic, stupid, funny, and crazy all at the same time.
As I was thinking about what we have gone through, Ethan and Aidan halted to a full stop with an arm extended out.
“What is it?” Aidan asked Kasia.
“Hunters.” She breathes out. “10 of them from my hometown.” Her gaze falls to a glare as she stares through the fog that had appeared earlier.
“You mean the ones that tried to kill Danny?” Ethan asks with a serious look. She nods nervously.
“Can we kill them?” Aidan asks with a mischievous grin.
Kasia shakes her head. “No, but we can scare them to death.” She whispers as she starts climbing a tree.
Before we could ask what she was doing, she was already up to the top. “Well, aren’t you guys going to come with?” she asks as if climbing was the normal way of transportation instead of walking. She hops from tree to tree like she has been doing it all her life. We didn’t ask questions and did what she said.
Only Stiles stood there still unsure of how to react. “C’mon Stiles, you can do it. It’s easy, see?” she says, swinging on a branch with one arm dangling from her body.
Stiles gulps out loud and sarcastically replies. “Oh yeah? I can do that in my sleep. You should really be focusing on my amazing skill of falling out of a tree. I mean wow, that’s some real talent.”
Kasia crosses her arms and hangs upside down from a branch right to Stiles eye level. “Stop being so sour, Stiles.” She whines with a pout. Stiles rolls his eyes and walks toward her. “Fine, but only because I don’t want to die. Not yet at least, I still have tons to do on my bucket list. And being killed by hunters is not on my list.” He says and takes Kasia’s and hand and pulls himself up onto a branch. “This isn’t so bad, I mean I’m getting the hang of it.” He says right as he almost falls out of the tree. Kasia caught him just in time and lifts him back easily. “Maybe I should just stick to hanging onto the tree for life.” Stiles says as he shrugs it off and Kasia snickers a bit in response. Suddenly we hear a ring of fire, and the next moment, the ground below us was engulfed in flames. The last thing I saw was Kasia screaming, trying to reach for something below. That was when I realized who was missing from our group. Stiles lays motionless on the ground, his chest flat. Not even breathing.
