Chapter 3: Bridge Over Troubled Water

Tate’s point of view

“Morning, mom. Dad.” I came down the stairs whistling, with my backpack strapped over onto my shoulder. I had just finished getting ready and it was another dreaded day of school.

                “Morning, sweetie.”

                “Morning, son.”

They said at the same time. I could smell the eggs and bacon that was being cooked as I took a seat at the island, taking a gulp of orange juice on the table. “That girl you sent down in tears left in a flash.” My dad’s voice held amusement in it. “And you couldn’t even make her, you know, be a little more quiet? There are other people sleeping in this house.”

“You know how the girls are dad. They want a piece of me and I’ll give it to them. All they do is shout my name at the top of their lungs.” I smirked back, as my dad was shaking his head at me.

My mom turned around and frowned at me. She had the bacon and eggs already cooked but she was holding it in the pan, while looking at me. “You should really stop playing with girls hearts, Tate. One day you’re going to meet your mate and everything is going to change. Why don’t you see that?”

I simply shrugged. “Mates. Schmates. No one wants to meet their mate now, mom. We’re still young. I want to live life before I settle down. If I ever settle down.” She poured the bacon and eggs onto my plate while shaking her head at me.

“Tate, your father and I met when I was 17 and he was 19. We were both teenagers, but now look at us. We’re married many years later with five beautiful children. You, Gage, Ryker, Tatum, and Kira.”

Gage and Ryker are twins who are freshman in high school with me, but they like to take the bus for some reason. Tatum and Kira are my two younger sisters, Kira being the youngest at 6, while Tatum is 9.

“That’s different. You guys wanted a family. I don’t think that I do. They’re too much work. Flings are easier. One and done.” My mom frowned at me as my dad slapped his hand onto his forehead.

“You’ll change your mind when you meet your mate. You’re going to be the future Alpha after all… can’t resist your chosen mate even if you wanted to.” My dad told me as he set down the newspaper.

“Okay, enough mate chit chat shit. I’m going to school. Peace.” I stood up from my chair, creating a screeching noise as I hopped into my Jeep Wrangler and left for school.

My phone went off, alerting me that I’ve received a text message. I looked down at my phone right when I pulled into the school parking lot and turned off the engine of the car.
