“In the blink of an eye, something happens by chance - when you least expect it - sets you on a course that you never planned, into a future you never imagined.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Lucky One
Cassidy's POV
I think everybody gets to this point in life where their overwhelmed and had enough. Most people feel like that in college, or as an adult. Not me, I had that kind of pressure at a very young age. I lost my parents at the age of 15.
I was just starting my sophomore year. It was the first day of school, my parents were driving me to school on their way to work. "Are you excited for your first day of school, Cassidy?" my mom asked. "Yeah, I can't wait to see Julie and Bethany!" I said, smiling. "I'm sure they can't wait to see you!" my dad said, looking back at me.
My dad was driving the car. When he turned around to look at me, he didn't see the semi in front of him across the center line, heading head on right to our car. "Daddy, watch out!" I screamed.
Dad turned around just in time for the semi to collide head on with the car. I was ejected from the car. I landed at least 15 feat from the car. I could still see the road though.
The car behind us, stopped immediately and got out. I didn't see much after that because I was behind a hill. I hope the person saw me get ejected. I don't want to stay here all day.
I made the decision to try and walk to the road. That didn't really go that well, my whole right leg was cut open and I think my leg and my knee were broke. I decided I would crawl my way up to the road. Well, that didn't work the best, my fingers were broke because I landed on them.
I sucked up the pain anyways, and crawled to the road.
I made it up to the road just when the fire trucks and ambulance got there. I was physically exhausted from dragging my leg behind me.
"Hey, there's a girl over here!" somebody yelled. I heard people running towards me. "Miss, were you in either of those vehicles?" one man asked. "Yes, I was in the blue car." I said quietly. "How did you get down here?" he asked. "I was ejected from the car. I was on my way to school." I explained. "I see, how far were you ejected?" the man asked. "I was ejected to that hill over there." I said, pointing to the hill. "Then how did you get over here?" "I crawled." I answered. "Ok, I'm going to have the medical staff come look at you. I have to go up to the car and truck." He explained.
"Ok miss, let's start off like this, where do you hurt?" the EMT asked. "My right leg and knee, and my right hand." I said.
They cut open my jeans on the right side to look at my knee. "Well, we are going to have to take you to the hospital. You will probably have to have surgery on your leg and knee." he explained.
When I arrived at the hospital, the doctor immediately came in and looked at my leg ad knee. "Your kneecap is completely broken, and your leg is broken is three different spots, were going to have to do surgery and replace your kneecap. We're also going to have to put a pin in you knee where a bone broke." the doctor explained. "Doctor, surgery is ready." a nurse said. "Ok, we'll be right down!" he said. "Ok we're going to take you into surgery right away so we can fix you leg." he said. "Ok." I said.
I woke up in a new room, the walls white and a really hard bed. My leg was in pain. I reached over to my remote thing and pressed the nurse button. My hand didn't feel any better either.
Five minuets later, my nurse came in. "Hi Cassidy, I'm Melissa, and I'll be your nurse. What are you having troubles with?" she asked. "My leg hurts and my hand doesn't feel any better than before surgery." I explained. "Ok I'll go get you some pain medicine for your leg, and then I'll get Doctor Miner in here to look at your hand." Melissa said. "Ok thanks." I said. I looked over at my little table and I saw my phone. I picked it up with my good hand and unlocked it. I had fifteen new voice mails and twenty new messages. They were all from either Julie or Bethany. I decided to listen to my voice mails first.
