LATER THAT DAY, WE WERE sitting on the porch swing. "I thought about it last night," Keira replies, peering at me, "and after you admitted your feelings for me, does that mean we're going to start considering ourselves as boyfriend/girlfriend?"

"Yeah," I answer. "I mean, if you want to be my girlfriend?"

She glimpses up at me and nods as a huge grin plays across her face. "You're absolutely the best," she whispers, burying her face into my neck.

I rest my chin on top of her head and close my eyes. 'Greatest girlfriend I could ever ask for' I thought as I kiss the top of her head.

That's when Korey's voice breaks the quiet atmosphere. I open my eyes and notice he's staring at me. "What's going on?!" he snaps.

"Shh, she's sleeping," I whisper.

"How come ever since you came home from taking her to the emergency room yesterday, y'all've only been like mushy gushy towards one another?"

"Because I confessed my feelings for her yesterday," I announce with a smile.

"Whoa! You did? How did she take it?"

"She admitted she had feelings for me also."

"So, y'all are dating now?" he asks, giving me a curious look as he cocks his eyebrow.

I nod.

He grins at me. That's when the question pops to mind. "Can I speak with you about something for a sec? Like man to man?"

"Sure," he answers. "What's up?"

"Well, when I took Keira to the emergency room yesterday, the doctor said she won't be able to reproduce. So, her and I decided we're going to adopt together," I answer softly.

"Well, I'm happy for y'all," he replies, clasping my shoulder.

"Thanks, man," I answer, grinning at him. He returns a smile and then goes back inside. I kiss Keira's temple and lay back. I close my eyes and pretty soon, I'm asleep.

When I awoke three hours later, Colby was sound asleep beside me. I gently brush his black hair back. 'He looks sexy. I'm happy to call him my boyfriend now' I thought as I smile at myself.

That's when Korey steps outside. "Colby told me y'all are adopting," he replies, coming to sit beside me.

I nod. "But we might wait another year before we adopt. We want to finish high school."

He beams at me. I return small smile and then he goes over to the pool to puts his feet in, them making circular motions in the water. "Isn't the water cold?" I ask, smirking at him.

"Nah. Not really. It's my body heat," he replies, smirking back at me.

I roll my eyes and then close them again.

A little bit later, I wake back up and realize Colby is still asleep. I smile to myself and then watch him sleep. About twenty minutes later, he finally wakes up and peers at me. "Hey, babe," I reply, brushing her bangs back.
