Telissa P.O.V
"I didn't even do anything!" I exclaimed.
That wasn't exactly true. What I had been doing before they pulled me in was also illegal. However I wasn't going to tell them that. I'd been pulled in two hours ago because someone caused a scene at a bank. There was a break-in with nothing stolen and a mugg- no maij had witnessed it without being obliviated. And I was the first person they pulled in.
"Sweetheart. I'm gonna go get myself a cup of coffee and then you're gonna tell me everything you know."
The detective then walked off.
"WHICH ISN'T ANYTHING!" I shouted at his back.
He laughed and continued on his way. I threw my head back in exasperation, looking up at the clouds where the ceiling should be. There was no ceiling in the MACUSA. I felt a tickle on my shoulder and a small noise in my ear.
"Not now Charm" I said under my breath, the bowtruckle now tickling my ear. "Why do you think I haven't moved? I'm binded."
The chair I was binded to was an uncomfortable wooden chair. I wondered if the reason the chairs were so uncomfortable was to make you confess quicker. I was quickly pulled from my thoughts as I was propelled out of the seat.
I turned around to see the chair sitting innocently. I cautiously walked towards it and sat down again. I was waiting to get pushed off again or binded again. Nothing happened. I slowly pushed myself up and looked around me.
No-one was looking up from their desk, all consumed in their work. No-one bothering with a young girl who looked harmless. So I brushed myself off and made it look like I was a woman who has business to attend to. I got to the start of the stairs and began to walk down when I heard a noise from behind me. I turned my head but kept walking down the steps until I whacked into someone. We tumbled down a few steps before coming to a stop at the bottom of the stairs.
"Merlin's beard, I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going and-" I trailed off as I looked into the eyes of the person I collided with.
It was the same pair of green eyes that I had once collided with a long time ago.
"Newt."
"Telissa."
"So..how's life been?" I asked casually, trying to spark a conversation whilst still straddling him.
"I've been better, I've been worse. You?"
I didn't get the chance to reply as I was pulled off by a rather angry looking Tina.
"Hello" I waved.
"What are you doing here?"
"Noth-"
I was cut off by a shout of anger from up the stairs. We all looked to see the detective from earlier, he was beet red and shaking with anger. He pointed a finger at me and let out an angry yelp.
"Well, must be going!"
Tina pulled me back and held me in place whilst the man made his way to us. When he finally reached us, he made a swipe at me and Tina pulled me back.
"What has she done this time?"
"She caused a huge kerfuffle at a bank not too far from here and let a no maij go without oblivating him. She's caused a lot of hassle!"
"Actually, I think you'll find that was my fault." A shy voice said from behind us.
Newt stood there with a sheepish grin on his face. He looked at me and I couldn't resist.
"Merlin's beard, Newt Scamander, a rule breaker?"
He let out a laugh and I giggled, both of us forgetting where we were until the detective spoke up.
"Is this true Tina?"
"Yes, I picked him up at the scene of the crime myself."
The detective looked me and Newt up and down before saying something to Tina. He then gave us one more withering look before walking away. Me and Newt shared a look before we turned to Tina.
"Should I go or?.." I asked, eager to be on my way.
"No, you're coming with us."
"But-"
I stopped talking after Tina shot me a look that could've melted ice. We walked up the stairs again, heading for the elevator. One thing that I knew for my times visiting MACUSA was the elevators meant that things were serious. I shared a look with Newt that conveyed how much trouble we were in. Red stood in the elevator like he usually did, I smiled at him and he returned it. Many disrespected him just because he was a goblin but I was always raised to never base my actions towards other on something as petty as race.
"Hey Goldstein, hey Redstone."
"Morning Red!" I replied, cheerfully.
"Hey Red. Major Investigations Department."
"I thought you was-"
I nudged him with my leg and he immediately stopped talking whilst Tina said the name again. He obliged and took us up to the floor. Tina walked out straight away, dragging Newt behind her whilst I stayed behind for a couple seconds.
"Wish me luck Red."
"Ain't no luck gonna save you girl."
I let out a dry chuckle.
"Thanks Red"
I walked out to see Tina standing meekly in front of Mr Graves, Madam President and another man that I didn't recognise. She was fixed on Madam President as she said the words
"You're no longer an auror"
"Which is not her fault." I stated, before realising I'd said that out loud when everyone turned to look at me.
"And how wasn't it her fault, Ms. Redstone?" The President questioned, one eyebrow raised.
"It...It isn't her fault that she shows compassion like an normal human being. That she lost her head at a woman who adopts children only to beat them and who hunts our kind! I mean it's not like the woman didn't have it coming!"
"The same way Ms. Lestrange had it coming?"
She took a step towards me.
"The same way she had it coming." I said, closing the gap between us.
We were locked in a stare down. One I was determined to win and one that could end with me getting locked up. She stared into my eyes but it was more than that, it was like she was digging for a weakness, something to take me down with. However I knew that I only had one weakness and that wasn't to be found in my eyes. We stayed like that for awhile before Tina grabbed me and tugged me towards the elevator. I kept telling myself to let it go before I heard the tiniest whisper from her.
"I knew that girl was a mistake from the beginning."
I heard it as if it had been amplified by a hundred speakers. I knew Newt had heard it as well because he took a sharp intake of breath. I pulled back from Tina's grasp.
"This isn't over. You and I both know this isn't the last you'll see of me and we both know how this ends, so if I was you I'd watch my words and show a little bit of respect."
She was clearly taken aback by the fact that I said that. I briefly enjoyed the look on her face before I turned around, walking to the elevator. Tina and Newt followed me. I was so angry that I could feel myself shaking, my eyes were slowly turning a bright purple, I could feel it. I took deep breaths and focused on that whilst Tina told Red to take us down to the Wand Permit Office. I felt someone grab my hand and hold it tightly, I didn't even need to look up to know it was Newt. I held on tightly whilst he rubbed soothing circles on my hand.
"You remembered" I whispered
"How could I ever forget anything about you?"
