I fell asleep extremely late last night, Tyler wasn't in bed with me. Lydia and Johnny left after I made spaghetti for us to eat. I heard Will get home so I assumed that the leftovers would be gone. I heard my mom come home around eleven last night. I drifted off finally at around one thirty.
"Good morning," my mom greeted as I slugged down the stairs. I had thrown on a Blankley hoodie and slipped on a pair of leggings. Will was already dressed and poking at his pancake. I walked by and stole a strip of bacon off of his plate, he didn't seem to notice. I took a seat next to him and rested my chin on my hand. I was delighted to see that Jacob and Landry were not here.
I bit into the bacon lazily. My mom stood across from us and picked up a piece of toast from her plate and took a bite. We sat in silence for the remainder of breakfast before it was finally time to head out.
Will followed me out to the car and hopped into the passenger seat. We both said nothing as we pulled into the parking lot of the school. Tyler couldn't come pick me up today because he had to make sure that the little ones were in order this morning.
I said goodbye to Will once we entered the school and went our separate ways. I subconsciously walked to my locker and grabbed my things for first hour. I felt even more sluggish than usual this morning. My head just wasn't in school. It felt like a dark cloud was looming over my head, not allowing me to think properly.
"Hey Sam," Jonas smiled as he walked up to me. I smiled back and listened as he told me about the phone call that he received last night. It was from his parents, they had called because his little sister missed him.
"I used to spend a lot of time with my sister, I think I miss her the most," he said wryly. I nodded as we entered our first hour, I hadn't realized that he was in this class yesterday apparently. We sat next to each other and talked for the majority of the hour. Today was just another off day.
I hate that this is a constant roller coaster, I want it to finally stabilize. I don't want it to change so often, I just want to consistently be happy for once.
"Samantha Hayes?" A woman walked in, I recognized her as the secretary. I leaned up to look over at her, she saw me and smiled. She looked down at the piece of paper in her hand and then back up at me.
"Your mother is here to get you," she said. A bunch of questions popped into my head. Why in the world would she need me? It was only first hour, I didn't think I had any appointments for today. I got up and followed the lady to the office. Once we entered the office I saw my mom waiting for me. Will entered behind me not too long after.
"Why did you pull us out?" Will asked, he was just as confused as I was. My mother had a twinkle in her eye that could light up an entire street. I could feel her good vibes radiating off of her. She motioned for us to follow her and before we knew it we were in the car. No one said a word, Will and I just sat and watched. All that we could hear was the steady hum of the engine as we pulled into the driveway.
The car came to a stop and then the engine died down. My mom got out of the car and Will and I shared a look before following her into the house. She led us to the living room, everything was normal except for the person sitting on the couch.
"Dad?" My voice shook as my breath hitched in my throat. He turned around and his entire face lit up at the sight of us. Everything in my body lurched, I felt like I had just become drunk. Everything seemed to be in slow motion as he stood, I ran to him. I threw my arms around his neck, everything was silent. I'm sure there was sound, but everything seemed to be completely blocked out.
He wrapped his arms around me firmly as I began to sob into his shoulder. These were the arms that have protected me for so long. The nostalgic feeling was unbelievable. I could feel Will push in beside me. Every cell in my body was tingling as more tears fell. I breathed in his scent. He smelled strongly of the forest, it reminded me of the times that he would take me hiking whenever I was little. It was my most favorite thing to do with my dad.
