YELLOW IS A PERSON.

yellow is you.

yellow is me.

yellow is he, she, them.

yellow is your mother, sniffing the bouquet of flowers someone left on her desk at work. a thank-you present.

yellow is your father, cooking the family his favorite meal and dancing goofily around the kitchen to the songs on the radio.

yellow is your brother, shouting encouragingly at the television as his team scores the game-winning-touchdown. they get to move onto the semi-finals. he is ecstatic.

yellow is your sisters, playing dolls for the first time in a long time with that giant, plastic castle they got last christmas. it's been in the basement, becoming more and more untouched as they grow up and turn to new ways of entertainment.

yellow is your boyfriend, laughing at the dumb things his friends send him over twitter. his laugh is loud, rough, pure. you wish you were able to experience it more often.

yellow is your best friend when you surprise her with two extra dollars at lunch because it's her sixteenth birthday. her hug of gratitude so tight you can barely breathe.

yellow is your internet friend, smiling so big as they look at you, with tears running down their face, in person for the first time. firsts lead to seconds, and seconds to thirds, and thirds to fourths. each time bigger, better than the last.

yellow is in everyone.
yellow is everyone.
and everyone is yellow.

YELLOW IS A PLACE.

yellow is here.

yellow is there.

yellow is in his arms, his eyes.
yellow is in her arms, her eyes.

yellow is in that little cafe on the corner that you spend all of your spare time at.

yellow is in that good book you haven't been able to put down.

yellow is in that oversized sweater, the one you like to pull over your hands and smack people with.

yellow is in that patch of grass you laid in the other day as you talked to god, asking him to make you happy again.

yellow is in your bed, where you spend most of your free time under the covers.

yellow is in that group message you're included in, the one with all of your friends that changes its name every holiday to get in the spirit.

yellow is in the karate school that you spent four years training in; the karate school that you put four years worth of blood, sweat, and tears into.

yellow is in the candle you burn while doing your homework. apple-scented, your favorite.

yellow is in the person's hand you hold when you're driving.

yellow is in the spot on his couch where you fell asleep in his lap and he called you beautiful.

yellow is in the video chats between you and your internet friend. separated by distance was how you lived out most of your friendship, but that was okay.

yellow is in that spot on the bathroom floor where you laid after being drunk for the first time.

yellow is in the city, the one you fell in love with last winter.

yellow is in every crack and crevice that you have touched, will touch, are touching.
yellow is everywhere.
and everywhere is yellow.

YELLOW IS A FEELING.

yellow is happy.

yellow is excitement.

yellow is pure.

yellow is pride.

yellow is warm.

yellow is genuine.

yellow is care.

yellow is cherish.

yellow is love.

yellow is that feeling you feel when you ace a test you studied hard for.

yellow is that feeling you feel when someone says they appreciate your presence, when someone says they appreciate you.

yellow is that feeling you feel when someone likes the same things as you and an intense conversation is sparked almost immediately.

yellow is that feeling you feel when someone compliments your favorite skirt or your newest poem.

yellow is that feeling you feel when someone offers you the last slice of pizza because they knew you wanted it more than they did.

yellow is that feeling you feel when you smile at a stranger and they smile back.

yellow is that feeling you feel when old friends remember who you are.

yellow is that feeling you feel when your favorite author announces a new movie is coming out for their series.

yellow is that feeling you feel when you check your calendar and the day is empty.

yellow is that feeling you feel when you're laying down and you feel your pet jump up next to you.

yellow is every emotion.
and every emotion is yellow.
