Christmas

I

woke up in my bed. Rubbing my eyes and sitting up. I turned around to see that my book was sitting in my bedside table but suddenly, a shiny group of boxes were piled up in front of me.
I got gifts! I thought, smiling.
I grabbed all the presents and carried them all down to the common room, which was now bustling, and made my way to where I saw Severus sitting with his pile of gifts on his lap, looking around anxiously.

I caught his eye and he relaxed, moving over so I could sit next to him.
Blushing, he pushed a large package into my hands.

"Merry Christmas," he cheered as I opened it.
Inside was a cage with a small, furry, grey and white ball.
Confused, I opened the cage and thr ball uncurled into a tiny kitten.

Picking it up, it stared up at me with its gorgeous blue eyes, releasing a delecate meow.
Placing it beside me, I turned to Severus who was fiddling with the ribbon of one of his gifts.

"Severus..." I said, tears filling my eyes.
He turned to me and I leaped at him, embracing him in a hug.
"Thank you so so much, I love him," I cried.
"Her," he corrected and I smiled.
"I love her".
Letting him go, I pushed a smaller package into his hand.
Picking my new kitten up, I watched him unwrap it.
Inside the package was a medium sized cage ... and inside that cage ... was a newly hatched dragon.

Severus stared at broken shells and the curled up reptile wide eyed.
"How did you...?
What is...?
Is this what I think it is?" He stuttered.

I nodded and smiled.
"Do you like him?" I asked.
He tore his eyes away from the snake like dragon and looked directly at me.
"Do I like him? DO I LIKE HIM? Myst, I absolutely love him!" He cheered.
I grinned and stroked my kitten.
"The animal rescue place said her name was Isla. But you can change it if you like," he quickly added.
I heard her purr in response to the name and laughed.
"No no, I like the name Isla," I assured, scratching her behind the ear.
"So what do you think you'll call him?" I asked.
"I think I'll call him Leviathan, or Levi for short," he answered.
I look down at Levi and chuckle.
"Just remember, you have to say this is an enchanted model of a dragon, not many people will be happy with a real dragon inside the school grounds, and don't worry, this species doesn't grow much and is pretty tame," I reassured.

Eventually, after a lot of talking, Severus and I had unwrapped all our presents.

I had gotten a new sketch book, pencils that never got blunt, an eraser that never ran out, a book of all dragon species but no moving pictures so I could draw them and a shining silver pair of dragon scale gloves that I know could only shine like that if the owner, or in this case, owners, were feeling happy or proud.

Severus got a new broom (I promised I'd help him learn how to fly a broom better), a strange gold ball with many engravings on it, a stack of books to read, a Probity Probe and a set of Wizards Chess.

Grinning, he set up the chess up and we played for a while.

I have to admit, Severus was quite good and proved a challenge to beat.

But out of all of this, all the hustle and bustle and excitement for Christmas, one thought never left me.

This is the best Christmas ever.
