That's the Last Straw

A few weeks after that, exam week had finally finished and that means HOLIDAYS. I walked back to my common room with Snape, chatting and planning when we could meet up. I looked down to my pile of books and noticed something was missing. "Oh sorry Severus, I think I left my quill in the transfiguration room, I'll be back," I called as I ran off.

I was jogging along the corridors, now with my quill that I had collected just before Professor McGonagall locked the door. Just before I reached the corner, I heard something. "Expelliarmus," someone yelled, followed by a thud. "Watch your mouth Snivellus," said the same voice. I sped up my pace and rounded the corner, only to see the marauders walking away and Severus against the wall. I softly growled after them and rushed to Severus, helping him up. He nods, telling me that he was alright. We walk all the way back to the common room, my rage growing and spreading through my body. I kept silent as I packed my trunk, ready to board the train.

I climbed on the train. I threw a nasty look the marauders when I passed them. James was the only one who seemed to of notice and glared back. I got into an empty cabinet, shuffling over when Severus reached me. We both were silent the entire, probably thinking of the same thing. How could we get revenge on the marauders? Then a thought came to me. "Hey Severus, are witches and wizards usually scared of dragons?" I asked. He looked up at me curiously,"yeah. Why?". "No reason," I answered. Grinning as I turned to look out the window. My rage building as I thought of all the times the marauders had pranked me or any of my friends....but mostly me. My dignity is something I am very protective of.

I got off the train, waving to Severus as he left. "Until next time," he said. "Until next time," I agreed. I watched the marauders get off, making sure non of them went near Snape. My eyes followed the red haired girl off the train. She was being tailed my James to who I suppose where his parents. Excellent, two birds with one stone. They seem deep in conversation so I risk going into the bathroom to get changed into my black cloak. I walk out to see that the Potters where leaving with Arabella following behind. I chase after them, determined to find one, or both of them alone without the parents. The basic rules of easy prey. It was almost dark, so I pulled my broom out.  A man came and grabbed my trunk,"I'll see you back home". And with that, left.

I carried my broom out of the station, getting odd looks from the Muggles nearby. I never took my eyes off the family in front of me though, not letting my anger grow further until it was time.

The trip to the Potters house wasn't too long. But by the time they had gotten there, it was completely dark. The parents walk in but thankfully, Arabella taps James on the shoulder wand bring him out onto the street. They seem to me talking about something. I sit in the nearby bushes, watching every move. I stealthily pick up a pebble and throw it into the pathway. They both look at the area where it had hit as though it had just made a loud howl. When they moved closer I could finally hear them. "Arabella, it will be fine, I can tell my parents already love you," said James. Arabella nodded,"okay. But can you leave me out here for a bit, I think I need some fresh air". James gave her a thumbs up and walked indoors. This is my chance. I walk out onto the pathway behind her. My anger bubbling and boiling until the point where I could feel it's heat pulsing out of my hands.

I felt my pupils sharpen and my bones grow. I watch my skin grow scaly and the ground ever so slowly moving away from me. I feel my shoulder blades lengthen into wings and my tailbone from into a tail. I get into all fours to keep my balance as my fingernails turn into claws. I glare down at Arabella who still has her back turned. Don't hurt her, only scare her enough to keep away from Severus and myself, I thought.

I emitted a soft growl which made her jump and turn around. Her eyes trailed from the tip of my tail to my outstretched wings and finally to my eyes. Bearing my fangs I stalked towards her without caution. I knew she wouldn't be allowed to use any spells, otherwise she might have her wand taken away from her. She was frozen in fear when I reached her, not making any noise at all, not movine, not even seeming to breath.

Suddenly, I pounced, putting one of my clawed front feet onto her chest to keep her down. She gave off a soft squeak and I lessened my pressure on her. "Now...listen....I don't want you....to ever.... Hurt the boy named Severus...ever again...." I growled. My voice was a lot deeper than usual but I didn't care. She nodded. I growled louder at her, my claws sinking slightly into her soft skin. Don't hurt her, I already told you to not hurt her I thought. And the only reason my dragon self didn't, was because of the strange voice (or voices) I heard from behind me. "Let....her...go".
