Brendon's POV

"Guess what, Maxima Indigo Carter?" I called up the stairs trying not to scream my head off.

"What, Brendon Boyd Urie?" She sassed back.

"Come down here now." I growled. We had been stepping on hot coals for the past week, based on how she behaved at her parent's house.

"And what if I said no?"

"You would never be able to see Gerard again."

I heard the door to her room open and she stepped out of the shadows, walking down the stairs. She had a blooming black eye, and a large gash on her forehead. "What the fuck happened?" I held her face in my hands, gingerly putting a hand to the swollen blue eye.

"Well, you remember that big window in my room?" I nodded, confused. "And do you remember how I always keep the curtains drawn?" I nodded again. "And that pretty ball of sea glass that Dallon gave me for my birthday?" One final nod. "Well, it has nothing to do with all of those things." She chuckled.

"Would you just tell me?" I crossed my arms.

"I had an allergic reaction to something in my room, so I went into your bathroom to see if you had any Benadryl. I slipped on the bath mat and hit my head on the corner of the counter, and my eye on the knob of the cabinet." She shrugged. "And I already know we're going to court."

"What?"

"I have a right to stay where I want to stay. the only reason I'm acting like a belligerent, blithering, idiot, is because I want to speak for myself. I'm my own person. I needed to get your attention to realize that I'm here, and I am not going to stay with the other family. They are not my parents. They are some fools who lost me."

I opened my mouth, shut it, then opened it again. "You are a fucking genius."

"With the aptitude of a three year old, and I'm more pretentious than any of the other assholes in the world." I grinned t her and ruffled her hair.
