[joshs pov]
the growl inside my body becomes unbearable, i haven't exactly eaten since yesterday at lunch.
it's almost as if my family wants me starve, you're nothing but a pig, my fathers words echoed throughout my brain.
but i don't blame them, they have a point.
the sound of feet running up the steps startle me, my door swings open and sure enough my dad is there, standing in the opened door.
"josh, you're going to be late for school, again." his lips pursed.
without a word i grab my backpack and walk past him, shoulders bumping.
-
i press the, almost too unstable, gas pedal and speed off.
the thought of school makes me gag.
but hey, only half a year left until i'm out of this hell hole.
-
first period, english, is probably my favorite.
not because i enjoy it, but because is the class i do the least about of work in.
Mrs.Kingsley is a pretty laid back teacher.
"i'd like everyone to welcome our new student, tyler would you please stand up and say high to everyone!" she said motioning for the new kid to rise.
i turn around to see a small framed boy, with skinny jeans on.
which are quite frankly too tight.
and a loose grey tee, his hair fluffed upwards lightly.
the entire class is staring at him now, his hand rises upwards, as if he's waving, and his body slouches back down into his seat.
"alright class take out your notebooks, we will be taking notes on the impact of poetry."
-
two minutes left till first period is over, and happily Mrs.Kingsley allows us to pack up and chat with our peers.
ha, funny.
i turn around too face sideways in my desk, and shove my notebook into my black backpack.
i look up and see tyler, the small framed boy, still writing in his notebook, almost viciously.
i bite my lip, curiosity fills my body, i shift my head to see what he's writing, but instantly feel guilt so i turn to face the front again.
everyone's conversing, and just as i begin to hear the voices fade and everything become a blur the bell rings.
-
{ 7th period }
"and don't forget to have your papers signed for the field trip tomorrow!" Mr.Ryland yells after the scurrying kids.
i look down at my phone and text my sister, abigail, asking her if she needs a ride.
just as i press send i feel my body collide with another.
our books, which were once held tightly, collapse only the ground.
"oh my god, sorry." i say in a sudden panic to grab my books and leave, in order to not embarrass myself anymore.
but there's no reply.
i look up from my book gathering to see the boy, tyler i believe, stand there awkwardly.
"i-i can grab your books too?" i ask, why did i stutter.
but again, no reply, he stands there with his hand awkwardly playing with his sleeves.
his eyes glancing at me, then at the ground, to his hands, and then back at me.
"well, um, here you go, tyler." i hand him his books anyways, with a grin spread across my face.
he smiles back, and boy, his smile sent shivers down my spine.
"you have a lovely smile."
"uh-i-i mean a smile looks good on you!" damnit josh, way to make things more awkward.
he rubs his hand along his arm, bites his lip, and walks away.
looks like i'm not making a new friend today.
shocker.
but something inside me causes me to do something i never thought i could.
"hey, want my number?" i shout at his petite figure walking away from the scene.
he turns around and nods his head, slowly and slightly, but a nod nonetheless.
tyler intrigues me.
