[ tyler's pov ]

it's freaking josh.

sitting with none other than marcy herself.

i knew it, they like each other.

josh ditched me to have coffee with her.

all during my thoughts i didn't even realize i've been standing in the same spot staring.

"sir, your blocking the line." says a worker.

i walk towards a booth by the window to sit.

luckily josh hasn't seen me, seeing as he's so absorbed in whatever that girl has to say.

she talks to him.

maybe she's good for him.

"tyler, is that you!" i hear a familiar voice, jenna.

i turn to see her walking towards me, i haven't seen her for two years, we used to hang out all the time because our parents knew each other well.

i turn my head back at josh, but this time he's staring back at me.

shit.

i smile at jenna, pulling my hand up to wave.

if he can go to the café with some girl, who's to say i can't?

"wow you look amazing, how have you been!" she must have forgot about my lack of talking.

"oh yeah, sorry i forgot there for a second, well you seem to be doing well." her smile is so sweet, always has been.

and her eyes, they look at me with a sense of comfort.

i look back at josh to see him texting on his phone, and suddenly i feel my phone vibrate.

josh: this isn't what it looks like.

tyler: does it matter if it did?

josh: well, i guess that's up to you.

tyler: it does, look like a date that you ditched me for.

josh: we always get coffee, and she seemed so excited!

tyler: because she likes you, you idiot.

josh: that girl who's sitting with you seems happy to see you.

tyler: at least i didn't ditch you for her.

why am i being so defensive?
