hermione dragged her feet to the spot at the gryffindor table next to ginny. the run-in she just had with malfoy was still quite fresh in her mind and it made her nauseous. why does she care so much?she plopped down next to her redheaded friend then plated a few sandwiches. harry grinned at her. "we finally have that mysterious new class for the next two periods. conveniently the last class of the day. well, for me at least. i know you took astronomy 'mione."
ginny clapped her hands excitedly. "can't wait to find out what it is! i stand by my charms theory, however."
harry shook his head. "it definitely has to be something to do with defence."
ginny rolled her eyes. "what do you think, hermione? still stand by your 'real life' reasoning?"
harry and ginny looked at hermione expectantly while hermione herself only just tuned into the conversation. "sorry, what was that? i was too busy...
going over my runes in my head."harry gasped sarcastically. "wow, hermione. not paying attention for once? what has the world come to."
hermione smiled shyly at them but ginny repeated what she had previously said nevertheless. hermione bit her lip. "yes, i guess i do stand by my theory."
harry turned to ginny then shrugged. "why do we even bother? hermione is probably right, like always."
by the time hermione finished off her third sandwich harry and ginny were getting ready to leave. she hastily picked up her side bag then followed her two friends out.
when they reached their class, harry turned to grin at the two of them. "well, i guess this is where we unveil—"
ginny scoffed. "shut up harry," she snapped teasingly then pushed open the door. hermione smiled at harry's fake frown as she followed in behind ginny.
the class itself was rather large but hermione expected that considering all returning seventh and eighth years would be in this one room. the rows nearer to the back were already being taken up by then slytherins; malfoy, daphne, nott and parkinson being some to name. however, malfoy sat on his own right at the back in the far corner.
hermione sat down next to ginny as close to the front as they could get and harry slid into the desk to the right of her, sitting comfortably with neville.
no longer than five minutes later, the entire class was full and their teacher was strolling in. their new professor had dirty blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail, deep blue eyes and a friendly, if not naïve smile on her face. she wore a simple, standard black robe and her wand was held loosely between her fingertips.
she stopped at the front of the class and spun around, her simple smile never wavering. "hello, seventh and eighth years of hogwarts," she greeted happily, her american accent awfully prominent. "my name is miss ellis and i'm your new professor. you all must be wondering what this class is about so i won't keep you in the dark no longer."
she paused for affect. when no one said anything, she carried on. "this is your class about real life. like a transition. your all thrown into the real world too fast after hogwarts and the majority of you don't know what to do. so i'm here to help you with that."
harry shot hermione a grin while ginny nudged her. she just smiled wider.
their professor, miss ellis, carried on. "but first i would like to get to know you guys. so, for the next ten minutes you're going to write me up a list of what you like, what you don't like, your hobbies, what you want to do with yourself in the future and some general information about yourself. like favourite colours or your birthday, for example."
