~in which instead of all from the same house, there is 1 member of each house in a dormitory~

So it's the first day of Hogwarts. For the first week, first years sleep with their own housemates. Then their dormitories are announced.

Harry and Ron enter the Great Hall with nervous faces. Dumbledore was just beginning to call out the names.

Then suddenly:

"Harry Potter from Gryffindor, Ernie Macmillan from Hufflepuff, Terry Boot from Ravenclaw and Draco Malfoy from Slytherin in dormitory number 239"

"WHAT??!" Two voices chorused. They were Harry's and Malfoy's.

"Sir- "

"Can't we-"

"No. What's decided is decided. Go to your rooms now" Dumbledore said firmly.

The first few weeks pass in turmoil. The boys have an initial hatred towards each other from the first day, but it dissipates. There's no point, they realise.

So they try - try-  to become friends.

"Potter! Hey, um, could you help me in my homework?"

"Uh, Malfoy? Draco? How exactly do you do this spell?"

"Nope, I can't help right now. Sorry not sorry, Malfoy"

"I know, but sorry I'm not in the mood of helping helpless scumbags."

But things got better.

"Lockhart is such a bitch oh God, he made me look over his fan mail for detention. For 4 HOURs. Do you know how tiring it is to see those girl's fan girl- y remarks?!" Harry groaned at midnight to Draco.

"I know, right? Like he made us take a test on which the first question was his middle name and the last question was 3 best qualities of him. Like how conceited can he be??" Malfoy agreed.

"Well, he has done great things..." Ernie said, but under 2 glares he changed his mind. "Okay, agreed. He is eXTREMElY annoying"

So Harry learns to trust Draco and tells him about what he hears. Draco in turn educates him about parseltongue. When Hermione is petrified, Draco is, well, not that eager to go towards the mudblood aspect of it. He actually accompanies Harry and Ron to the chamber of secrets.

"No, Harry. I am coming inside. I'll help. The matter is closed. In fact, follow me "

But in the 3rd book, Hermione trusted only Harry (and Ron later) about the time turner, and he really couldn't break her trust. So no word of that got to Malfoy.

In the 4th book... Drama.

"OhmyGOD!"

"Why didn't you tell-"

"-not going to listen!!"

But then, they started helping him.

"Dragons egg? I'll think of some spells..." Terry Boot mused on the eve of the first task.

"Okay so you have to go underwater right? Hm, I'll check some books and tell you.." Ernie told him, disguising his worry when he deciphered the 2nd clue.

"A freaking maze? Should be easy.."

"Are you kidding? They can put anything in there!! Let's check out some hazardous creatures first" Ernie rambled.

"Just by the way Ernie, I was kidding when I talked about the maze." Draco said dryly.

"Oh.. um.. I knew that. " Ernie said sheepishly.

And in the 6th book oh God, I don't even know if Draco would kill dumbledore. He wouldn't. Just imagine: dumbledore alive in the 7th book!

I don't have the capacity to express how the 7th book would have gone, then.

If there even would be a seventh book.

All I can imagine is dumbledore still being the headmaster, snape still spying on Voldemort, another teacher who works for Voldemort: but this time, directly. He tortures children in the most subtle ways, yet prominent, and death eaters slowly infiltrate Hogwarts. All this while DA goes strong, with all houses actively participating. It now takes place in shifts, with Luna and Neville overseeing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years, Ron and Hermione overseeing 4th and 5th years and Harry's dormitory overseeing the 6th and 7th years. Harry, now with confirmation from Draco, hates snape and strongly suspects him.

During the final battle, Harry still goes over to Voldemort. When he comes back though, the entire school revolts. And Draco.. he never goes to Voldemort's side. The battle is won. Draco's family never flees, instead they are vouched for by Harry. Snape dies, and there is sympathy for him, but he isn't regarded the greatest hero.

Because slytherin isn't the evil house anymore. His past deeds aren't forgotten. Sure, his final motive may have been good, but it didn't cancel out all the bad he did while at Hogwarts.

Harry's child isn't named albus Severus anymore, its albus Draco, in honour of his best friend that, despite all the bad he could do, did good.
