What the Hell?

I have to admit the scenery was beautiful, although I was still indifferent about the company. Sure, I should be all hot and bothered because I am alone with this extremely hot guy but something just isn’t sitting right with me about him. On the other hand I find him very intriguing.

“So is their some big reason why the devil can’t be allowed to reclaim my soul? I mean like… why are you fighting so hard to protect me?” I looked at Nick while he just stared straight ahead at the road.

“I will explain things more to you later. Now is not the time,” he replied back not even once looking at me.

“Why? Now seems as good a time as any to tell me what the hell is going on,” I snapped back.

“I said later not now,” he growled.

“Fine.”

I am so confused right now. Why won’t he tell me anything? Why does he have to be all secretive? I pulled my knees up to my chest and let my chin rest on top of them. A tear slid down my cheek.

About thirty minutes later we pulled into the parking lot of a small diner. I jumped out of the car and darted for the doors.

A waitress looked at me funny as I ran in. “Bathroom?” was all I said.

She pointed to a door to the right of the entrance and I hurried across the room to the door. I go to turn the knob and the door is locked. Great someone is in there. I try to stand still and not dance around so much but I really have to go bad. I know everyone is probably staring at me right now too. A few minutes later an old lady comes slowly out the door. She looked me up and down, snorted then walked away. I hate people who think they are better than you.

Finally relieved I walk out of the door and over to the booth where Nick was waiting. He was staring intently at the menu, couldn’t be that much to choose from by the looks of this place. I slid into the seat across from him and picked up the menu. This was not the kind of food I was used to…but if I don’t want to starve it will have to do.

The waitress came over to our table and just stared at me. Seriously what is wrong with these people?

“What?” I practically shouted at her and snapping her back to reality.

“Um what can I get you?” she asked in a southern accent. Too funny…a southern belle lost out here in northern California. Well at least that is where I thought we were still. By the looks of her she was looking to get a career in acting and failed miserably.

“So are you a Hollywood reject?” I smirked. Nick glared at me. The petite blonde was obviously taken aback by my outburst. She stood there just looking horrified. She had her hair pulled back in a neat pony tail not a strand out of place. Her eyes glistened as tears threatened to fall.

I was right she was a reject. Nick spoke up, “Ignore her she is just PMSing.”

The waitress whose name tag read Susie seemed to be enticed by his voice and smiled when she said, “its ok I understand honey.”

She kind of blushed at Nick and for some reason made me feel a little jealous. I leaned my back against the booth and crossed my arms across my chest and watched as she ogled over him.

“Uh hem, I am hungry over here and would love something to drink if that’s too much to ask.” I complained.

“You better take her order before she turns into a wolf,” Nick laughed. I kicked him hard in the shin but that backfired when pain shot up my leg as I remembered I was only wearing flip flops.

“Damn it!” I screeched.

Susie finally took our order and left the table but glanced over her shoulder as she left and smiled at Nick.

“What’s your problem?” He asked.

“Nothing,” I mumbled under my breath.

“Well that was completely uncalled for. You did not need to treat such a sweet little girl like that. What did she ever do to you?”

“Ok fine I may have went a little overboard with the reject comment…but I‘m freaking sick of these people in here looking at me like I’m trash or yet even worse a hooker.”

I pulled the hair tie off of my wrist and pulled my hair back into a messy bun. I’m sure the blue tips were sticking up all over but I didn’t care anymore. I wiped a tear from my face as I turned away from Nick trying to hide the rest of the tears that threatened to fall.

He got up from his seat and sat next to me pulling me into his embrace as I laid my head on his shoulder taking in his scent.

“It will be ok,” he reassured me. I wasn’t sure if it ever would be. I have been ripped away from my family and friends…I’m not sure I will ever see them again.

The waitress returned with my strawberry milkshake and coffee. I apologized to the girl for my outburst and that I shouldn’t be taking my problems out on her. She didn’t say a word and just gave me a fake smile then walked away.

“We will go shopping after we finish eating…that is if you are feeling up to it?” He smiled. I slurped on my shake and nodded my head in response.

She returned with our food a few minutes later and we ate in silence. Ok so this food wasn’t too bad I guess. I picked at my fries and dipped some of them in my shake.

“What are you doing?” Nick looked at me with one of his brow arched.

“Eating… Is there something wrong with that?” I retorted.

“I have never in my life seen someone dip fries into their shake.”

“Are you serious? I usually dip them in a chocolate one but I really wanted strawberry this time. Here try it,” I dipped a fry and stuck it in his face. He was hesitant at first but then took it.

“Um that is definitely interesting,” he scrunched his face in disgust.

“I guess it’s an acquired taste,” I laughed.

We finished up and he paid our check then we walked out to the car. He helped me get in then went to his side a slid gracefully into his seat.

“So are we ready to go shopping?” He air quoted himself, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
